Attractively set in Kyoto, insomnia KYOTO OIKE features air-conditioned rooms, free bikes, free WiFi and a shared lounge. This 3-star hotel offers a 24-hour front desk and luggage storage space. This is a really lovely hotel with really friendly and helpful staff. We had a lovely room, with a comfortable bed and all the things you need for a stay, USB ports to charge the phone etc as we didnt have an adaptor for Japanese plugs, tea coffee, fridge, plus all the toiletries in the bathroom. Loved having an all day buffet breakfast, it was so nice to come in after a day in the cold and rain and help ourselves to a hot drink and a croissant. Loved the free bikes with the booking, and the staff were so helpful in getting the bikes for us. We really felt that nothing was too much trouble in this hotel, whether it was getting the bikes for us or offering advice on how to get to a temple or garden. It was a great location and so easy to walk to the Metro. We never understood the bus service but I am sure if you can get to grips with that its good for those too. The fantastic Ninjo Castle is just a 5minute walk.

Hyatt Place Kyoto features a restaurant, fitness centre, a bar and shared lounge in Kyoto. It's not super close to the river and old town but Kyoto is a walking city. Everywhere you go it's close. Plus the subway is right underneath the hotel and taxis are easy.

Featuring a fitness centre, a restaurant as well as a bar, KAYA Kyoto Nijo Castle, BW Signature Collection by Best Western is located in the centre of Kyoto, 700 metres from Nijo Castle. Excellent value for money - so many thoughtful touches! It was extremely clean, great interior design, very calming and Japanese style. It's very close to Nijo Castle and doesn't take long to get to the hustle and bustle of Gion and other areas. There were some highly rated restaurants nearby but all were booked when we were there so worth looking in advance. The hotel is locked on very cute Kyoto streets.
