Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

We were fine because we had guys with us but you have to carry your luggage up several stairs.
It was within walking distance to the port and to great dining. Beautiful place. Communication from owners was fabulous!

The total price was higher than I would normally pay but there were four of us so we would have needed two hotel rooms so I guess it evened out. Three of us are elderly with heavy luggage and it would have been quite the struggle to get the bags up and down the steep, narrow flight of stairs but fortunately my 34 year old strong daughter was with us to do the heavy lifting otherwise it would have been extremely difficult and perhaps injurious.
The apartment was adorable. Looked to be recently remodeled. Very nice furnishings and very tastefully decorated. Super clean. More amenities than we needed as we didn’t cook or wash clothes or have a car to park. This apartment is more suited for a longer stay instead of just overnight. I chose this place because it was within walking distance to the cruise terminal the next morning.

A better entry plan. Fortunately, we were able to speak with a neighboring business owner. We found the address but it was not like a house. Storefront type entry was not expected. We thought we were at a management business address to retrieve a key.

Nothing we didn’t like. We all travel a lot around the world and this place was one of the very best.
The loft was so much larger that we expected and it included a parking spot and just a few blocks to all the restaurants, bars and entertainment. The loft was sparkling clean and everything looked and felt brand new. Super soft, comfortable beds, fluffy towels and first rate toilet paper (so often places have the low grade stuff). The design and the layout was excellent. The kitchen had everything needed to cook meals and they even provided coffee and sugar. Lastly, the hosts were great with all communications, they would answers any emails in mere minutes. They let us leave our luggage after checkout time until we left for our cruise ship.

No cons, complaints or issues. I can't think of one bad feature, well unless you have a problem with stairs, besides that nothing. Loved my stay.
The loft was very private, clean, practical and homey. Owner emails clear instructions days before first night of stay, very straight forward. I loved the gated and private parking, walking distance of many bars and kitchens. I stayed with my spouse and small child; it was just what we needed after a long day at the beach. A personal retreat.

I only had one night in Galveston! I would have loved to stay longer!
The loft was perfect for my during my son's New Student Conference at Texas A&M -- Galveston. It was a decadent retreat without the decadent price. Hope to return soon! Thanks so much, Erin!
