To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

United States of AmericaI don't like the slider/barn doors on bathrooms. They don't offer any privacy. I know they save room but designers need to fix them. Everything else was great.i loved the lights under the bed. It would be nice to have a plug near the mirror. I like to dry my hair while my husband is showering.

UkrainePrice could have been a bit lower (lots of taxes), breakfast could have been included with such a price. We had a misunderstanding with our neighbors under our room (smoking weed and screaming at the balcony during the night), but hotel stuff helped to solve it. Money for the whole stay + extra was charged on my card for 10 days after the checkout beside the fact I payed cash for the stay (too long as for me).
Location was perfect, hotel is fascinating inside, room with bay view was fantastic.

United States of AmericaWe can’t rely on bell hop when we arrive because they are always so busy that our luggage doesn’t always come to our room when we need it. We always end up just carrying everything ourselves.
Every thing was clean and comfortable. The staff was accommodating when we called to let them know we would be in town a little earlier than expected and they allowed us to check in an hr before their normal check in.
