Navigating Zanzibar City was surprisingly easy, with an array of transportation options available. The compact size of the city made it convenient to explore on foot, with many attractions within walking distance of each other. I would definitely suggest trying the local Swahili food for fresh fish and seafood.
For a visitor from South Africa, I found the price of food and drinks at restaurants relatively expensive.

Paradise Found: Zanzibar's Enchanting Beauty
Paradise Found: Zanzibar's Enchanting Beauty
Zanzibar is simply one of the best places on Earth. Its beaches are nothing short of breathtaking, with pristine sands so fine they feel like silk beneath your toes. The tranquil waters, gentle and calm, create a mesmerizing backdrop that captivates the soul. My love for this place knows no bounds; it's a sanctuary of unparalleled beauty and serenity.

It was lovely and we got to see the history of the slave trade (albeit sadly as it was a horrendous practice). The beaches are also very beautiful (Jambiani Beach was where we mostly went.) The spice farm tour and markets were lovely as we got all kinds of fresh spices.
However, it is very tourist-centric. Payment is in dollars everywhere and people are always trying to sell you something. Feels very commercialised.

Dirty, smelly, full of approaching ~beach boys, sellers and beggars. Much more aggressive than up north. Mostly came for a Nakupenda tour. Nice place but be aware that it’s crowded - by lots of tourists and then of course even the aggressive up in your face wanting to touch you sellers there too.
The more upscaled beach hotels and restaurants are nice though.

Stonetown is a cute, small city with arab influence.
Stonetown is a cute, small city with arab influence. It is worth taking the boat to prison island to learn more about the history and see the turtles. 2 days is sufficient. In the evening there is a night market with different food stalls.
Hotel outside area was nice, restaurant was pretty in evenings (needed more lighting at restaurant). Beach was nice but didn’t look like pictures on Booking.com. Comfy loungers. Large bed and spacious room. Aircon and Wi-Fi worked well. Hotel was close to airport and 10 min drive from stone town. Locals were nice on the beach. The cats were super friendly and looked like they were looked after. Pool was nice. Manager asked us for our opinion on hotel before leaving and listened to our considerations which was nice.
Zanzibar Coffee House is an amazing old palazzo in the heart of Stone Town. It has pedestrian access only, although you risk getting run down by motorbikes in the ancient narrow streets. Zanzibar Coffee House is part cafe-part hotel. It is quite expensive (coffee is UK prices) and not plush, but full of character. Despite the prices, don't expect western standards. If it's luxury you're looking for, this isn't for you. However if you want to enjoy an incredible historic environment, this is a great experience.
The room was very nice, especially the bathroom. The location was perfect, in the middle of Stone Town, next to the Old Fort. Food was really good, especially the breakfast! The pool on the rooftop was the best after our Safaritrip. The view from the rooftop above the city is wonderful. We also had the possibility to leave our luggage in a luggage room after check out. We would definitely recommend this hotel for your short stay in Stone Town!
1) its in stone town, walking distance to all touristy places in zanzibar city
2) they have a pretty clean aprrment with all appliances in kitchen in proper working condition where you can even cook without any hassle.
3)great host and staff
4) normally there are many apartments in stone town but you get lost in the lanes, this one is right next to port and all places accessible easily without having to wonder around the small stonetown lanes.
The Hotel is well located in the heart of Stone Town. Our room was nice and spacious, so was the bathroom. Everything clean. There is a nice little pool, perfect for a quick refresh after exploring the city. The roof terrace is very nice, food was really good, although we didn‘t have breakfast as our flight was too early in the morning. Staff was nice and friendly, can totally recomend this place for a stay in Stone town.
Location was superb, right on the beach(the main hotel as this is part of 5 hotels) and in the centre of stone town yet quite quiet. We stayed two nights. The second night we had a top floor studio which was great. Very spacious, private with loads of air and large fridge. The breakfast is all you can ask for. Huge bufet with all sort of western and asian food and great selections of drinks too.
Breakfast was fine; a buffet, with enough food and enough variety. The restaurant was very pleasant, semi-outdoor setting by the swimming pool, in the garden. The hotel is very attractive, and located in Stone Town which I really liked. However, this meant that the last 100 metres to the hotel were on foot, which was a bit of a surprise on arrival. Luckily it was not raining at that time.
I was so lucky to trust my gut . I had no expectations but I was blown away by the service , design and staff at Shoki Shoki . the hotel is new furnished with Swahili design . there is free wifi and it’s 2 min walk to all places I wanted to check out in Stone town . the manager was amazing and also offers transport to airport at small fee.
Breakfast was very delicious at only $3
The hotel is absolutely beautiful and one of the best in Stone Town with a perfect location and charming boutique feel. The staff is on top of everything, incredibly kind, and gave us the warmest welcome upon our arrival! The interior pool is dreamy and all the premises are very well kept. The rooms are also amazing and super spacious.
The location of the hotel is excellent in stone town. The staff is very friendly and we met the manager Danielle who was very welcoming and nice. The room and the decorations are exquisite, unique, clean and comfortable. The food as well is delicious. The view from the rooftop is amazing as well on the harbour.
This is a boutique hotel with immense character, it has lovely sea views and genuine old world charm with wood paneled roofing, sprawling verandahs and terraces! It is old world luxury!
The food served was simple and delicious.
The location is very close to the airport and a short drive from Stone town.
Everything!! It has an excellent location, close to every activity and place in Stone Town. The staff are quite nice and ready to attend to your needs. In one of our outings, it rained terribly, we had to run from the ferry to the hotel. Thank goodness the hotel was just close by. Great experience:)
The Manor house is a super cute place to stay in Zanzibar city. The staff is more than amazing, I am really impressed by the people who work in the hotel. It's clean and perfect for relaxing. Plus they have their own garden with wonderful fruits and everything is super fresh!
Antonio Beach Hotel & Spa has lovely rooms on the beach. Our room was large, clean, had working AC (although not very powerful), great WiFi, and had hot water. The hotel grounds are very nice, spacious, natural. The pool was wonderful.
The hotel is really nice as style! In a good position to visit stone town and to go with boat to prison island and nakupenda!
The transfer from/to airport was really good!
It is really close to a beautiful restaurant on the beach!
A 4 star hotel surrounded by Stone Town's main 5 star hotels. A pretty great location. Air conditioned lobby which is greeaaat if you visit when it's hot. Rooms felt spacious enough. The staff were really nice and conversational.
Hotel was so clean. Staff was super helpful and friendly. Special thanks to Jackson who helped us throughout our stay. Definitely one of the best hotels we have stayed in stone town.
Brilliant location in Stone Town, easy access to markets, alleyways and if course right on the beach. Terrific staff, very good breakfast and very clean and comfortable room.
