A lively, bustling area with plenty to go for eating and shopping. It is less urban than Salvador but still very densely populated and active with everything you need close by. I felt safe, especially during the day. I didn't go out at night as much, so I can't comment on that. We finally got to the beach that is nice but extra trash laying around very smelly and unhealthy..... several people tried to bump me while shopping to try to get into my fanny pack. We are still in town but I do not ever feel safe here.

There are con artists running the hotel we stayed in including violence by staff, localbusinesses willgreatly increase prices when they realize you are what they consider a rich american. I hate this hotel and the low class behavior of management and staff.BruceUnited States of America
