We've loved the location of this place! It is right on the ocean and has extremely beautiful landscaping between the room and the ocean. Our room had an unobstructed view of the ocean and we loved hearing the ocean waves. The pool area is very nice. Just be careful as there are lots of ants as there are everywhere in Costa Rica. The bathroom shower is to die for. The kitchenette covers the basics with a coffee maker, toaster oven and refrigerator. The a/c and hot water worked great. The staff are very friendly. Please be advised there are no small mini markets or super markets in the area so bring what you need with you in terms of drinks and food.

Pleasant easygoing owner Ms Mariam, we had to leave before daybreak and our car was blocked in the tight hotel parking, Mariam solved the situation for us sometime past midnight. Excellently situated, direct beach access, rocky, no easy swimming though. Barely two minutes walk to vivid Puerto Viejo bars and restos.

The beach in town smells bad and can be crowded. The beaches further away are quiet and cleaner. Cocles was perfect. Little tide pools across from the Jaguar Rescue Center too. Absolutely must visit the rescue center and Tasty Waves

The fresh food was stupendous.
The fresh food was stupendous. Our favorite restaurant was called "Como en mi Casa". The beaches were gorgeous. With guides, you see many sloths and monkeys. People are all very nice. I loved the Jaguar Rescue Center. They took in so many kinds of animals and they strive to rehabilitate them and return them to the wild. They were amazing.
Driving through the main part of town was VERY challenging. Sometimes, folks would just park in the street on a two lane street where there was only one lane for each direction of traffic. Scooters would dart around you from all directions and obeyed no traffic laws. There would be people walking everywhere and sometimes someone in your lane of traffic was pushing a banana cart.
It was hot and no restaurants had air conditioning and very few fans.
For these reasons, I would never want to go back. The difficulties were more challenging than what was offered.

Clearly a place for a younger crowd than us 70+ year olds but that didn't get in the way for us. Always treated well. Great to have such an international mix of people. Great food options, again with a mix of cuisines. With modest efforts you can arrange individualized itineraries for the sights. Infrastructure (local transportation, streets/roads, sidewalks) could benefit from updating - always a challenge in crowded, somewhat remote areas.

Charming Caribbean town, friendly
Charming Caribbean town, friendly
people, fun restaurant and entertainment options However, all gringo eateries are vastly overpriced. Avoid all the fancy places, totally not worth it. Exorbitant prices for nothing special. Opt for the few, but better, luncheonettes instead. Beer, not wine.
Loved Riquisimo! Be aware that different taxis charge different rates for the same trip, because they can haha! Chill! ;-)
This is a beautiful location surrounded by incredible fauna and flora. It is secluded so it is much more quiet than the center of Puerto Viejo and the beaches are not crowded. It is very close to Playa Negra, only a 3 minute walk. I stayed in Casa Chiquita and it was the perfect size for a solo traveler. Maria was an incredibly gracious host and very accommodating. I did not have a rental car and she was able to recommend a taxi service for a day trip to Cahuita. This made for a very tranquil vacation.
Staff is really nice but a bit distracted specially in the restaurant. But service was overall good. The hotel itself is beautiful, pools are stunning, facilities are spacious and beautifully designed, beachfront loungers are very handy, dinner food is very tasty and cocktails nicely prepared. Walking distance to Jaguar rescue center, Soda la Nena ( with good Caribbean food) and supermarkets. The spa is a massage room, but masseusse is lovely and the forest view is stunning. Highly recommended.
Great staff, great location, great food. Easy access to the beach across the street. Very clean beach and not crowded. Room with ac is a must for us coming from the arctic. The jungle all around make you feel you are almost alone.Tasty waves cantina make very good dishes and the size are quite big, one of the best place to eat in town. Staff always smile and can give you tip on expeditions.
Puerto viejo is near 2km, you can walk, ride a bike from Tasty Dayz or call a tuktuk for 2000 colones.
We really enjoyed our stay a lot. We had a beautiful little house near the river, with a hot shower and a comfortable bed, also an extra living room and a little kitchen. Could see monkeys and sloths, agutis and a lot of other different wildlife from our terrace. Free water, laundry and kayaks. Everything was really clean and only 5 min walk to the beach. Helped us with everything we needed. A tuktuk to puerto viejo takes about 10 mins. Everyone was really friendly we would def come again.
Everything was perfect! The hotel is located directly in the jungle and you can spot so many different animals. The way to the beach is really short and it’s really amazing there and not crowded. The room was also so good, really clean and had everything we needed. Just sitting on the terrace and listen to the sounds of nature was really cool. Last but not least the hosts are so friendly and above all so helpful and the breakfast was just so delicious, also the best we had in Costa Rica!
Comfortable bed, great coffee, beautiful garden and shared space to relax in and lovely owners and staff. We were able to rent bikes for $5 a day which I recommend doing - Gandoca Manzanillo park and Punta Uva beach are a very manageable ride away. There is also a mini market and a couple of nice restaurants nearby. A taxi/tuk tuk is needed to get to Puerto Viejo and back and it can be a bit tricky to find one on your own, so ask for contact details.
Highlights:
The staff.
The whole hotel is beautiful and spotlessly clean, and the rooms are 5* even by UK standards
The breakfast is amazing.
The pool is relaxing.
You can walk 5 minutes one way and you are in the rainforest, 5 minutes in another direction and be in Puerto Viejo town centre, or 5 minutes another direction and you are at the beach.
Free secure parking.
Perfect location, on a beautiful, private and quiet beach. Super close to Puerto Viejo town with loads of restaurants, super markets, bike & scooter rentals. Lovely place with gorgeous ocean views and the unit has everything we needed for our stay. We even saw a sloth right on the grounds! The gardens are also really beautiful.
Very Cute and cozy hotel. The location is very good. Breakfast ( Switzerland/Costa Rica style) was amazing. The owner and dog are very friendly and kind. We left early in the morning, and they even handed us a breakfast bag. This stay helped us to make a memorable vacation at Puerto Viejo. We really appreciate it. Thank you.
The facility is owner operated. He is friendly and can speak English, although he is Spanish. Most willing to try to get us to a specific tour by calling the organisers.
The room was spacious and the swimming a great relieve in the heat of Puerto Viejo.
About 300 metres from the sea and very nice beach restaurants.
The breakfast was spectacular! Leon' is definitely a 5 star gourmet chef! Still want to know his recipe for hot sauce! Yummy! It's off the grid, but close enough to great restaurants, the beach and shopping in downtown Puerto Viejo! Also, the other best thing is getting around Puerto Viejo in the local Tut Tut's!
The style of the property and the rooms were designed very well. We were very comfortable during our stay. Having the pool and the beach nearby was very convenient. It was also nice to be outside of the more bustling Puerto Viejo town. We saw and heard the monkeys from our room/ the pool. Breakfast was very good!
Breakfast was very good and changed every morning. They had hot coffee ready every morning at 5:30 and right in front of Our beachfront apartment which was a short distance from the hotel. Beautiful black sand beach great for swimming! Location was far enough North away from the hustle bustle of Puerto Viejo
Beautiful place, with amazing details. It's a cozy hotel boutique, in the middle of the jungle and close to the best beach in the Costa Rica Caribbean. The room was perfect, have all you need to enjoy your stay. The breakfast is delicious 🤤 Alessandra and the rest of the staff was so nice and friendly.
The hotel itself is beautiful! It's located right near the caribean sea, it looks very exotic and luxurious, and the staff is great. The rooms are nicely decorated as well, and the food was good. We really enjoyed our time here.
Having a cocktail at the beach terrace is the ultimate holiday experience.
We loved the bungalow at Casa Viva. Having access to such an amazing beach was a great asset. Punta Uva is just south of the crowded Puerto Viejo, which gave us a more of a secluded feel to our trip . The hotel gives many recommendations for restaurants and activities. We hope to go back sometime soon!
The hotel is perfectly located just a short walk from the restaurants and bars. The fabulous black sand beach is just a minute away. The staff are friendly and always happy to help. The room was clean and spacious. They happily accommodated us for a extra night as we really loved Puerto Viejo.
It is very conveniently located between Punta Uvo and Puerto Viejo. The room was very comfortable with air conditioning. The pool area was beautiful and had a resident sloth!
Nice location in a quiet area of Puerto Viejo close to the beach and busy pub area, breakfast area is lovely and breakfast was great, parking on site, great restaurant nearby
