Location great, but room was in the chalet opposite the hotel and room was small with a dog.. Friendly staff and great food.
The Park Hotel - Where the atmosphere & surroundings are as welcoming as the food. Why not go all the way! To Caithness, the land beyond the Highlands and enjoy the hospitality at the Park Hotel.

Compact wee town centre with a big Co-op supermarket.
Compact wee town centre with a big Co-op supermarket. People seem genuinely friendly & helpful. A train & bus station, nice beach & Scrabster nearby for ferries to Orkney. Good base for exploring round about & into Sutherland too for the beautiful golden sandy beaches an hour or so away at Armadale, Bettyhill, Torrisdale & Coldbackie. Lots of Stone Age relics to explore too.
A lovely but long journey up by train. Takes about 4 hours from Inverness. Only issues were leaving Thurso by public transport to catch links from Inverness to go further south as just 4 trains a day & nothing after 4.28pm weekdays. No buses seemed to leave Thurso for Inverness after 11.50. Buses take around 3 1/2 hours to Inverness. Good to book taxis as far in advance as possible as get booked up fairly quickly.

Hotel position and friendly staff were good, but the online description of the hotel and facilities was not accurate. Very disappointing.
- room not serviced for three days
- initial room smelly and mouldy
- had to ask for soap and toilet paper
- advertised food items for breakfast not provided
- bath leaked
- no phone in room

Some of the best place to eat in UK.
Some of the best place to eat in UK. Outdoors is its selling point, if King Charles III has a holiday retreat nearby it must be the best in the World. Winter nights are dark and cold with limited night life.

We used Thurso as a jumping off and landing point for the Orkney islands. I wish we had more time in the Thurso area as I believe there is much more to explore. And don't miss the Sri Lankan restaurant in town!! your dinner may take awhile but that's because it is being cooked up fresh.

Thurso is a town that has seen better days, but most people are going to Thurso to visit John O Groats or to catch a ferry, rather than for the town itself. We stayed out of season so did not visit the beach. We enjoyed our walk to Dunnet Head, and spent our 2nd day visiting John O Groats and Wick. We recommend the Thurso Visitor centre / Museum (free entry, but donatiion requested)
We stayed here twice - to and from the ferry to Orkney. The first time was in the Weigh Inn Lodges. Not as nice as the Inn itself. The Inn is great! Perfect location, extremely friendly and helpful staff (and they do everything from reception to the bar / restaurant). Less than 5 mins to the ferry. We had a huge room! Nice bathroom too. The restaurant is good - not gourmet but fine for us. The place is comfortable, homey and if you are going to Orkney (or driving the NC 500) this is place to stay!
Not sure what my expectations were, but Forss House far exceeded them. This is no ordinary hotel, but more of a stay at an upscale country house. We ended up staying an extra night and would definitely come back. The staff treat you like VIPs at all times, so was very relaxing and they cheerfully helped with several simple special requests. Dinner on site is exceptional quality if a bit pricey. Breakfast amazing. The grounds have a number of excellent walking paths/exercise opportunities.
Very easy to find, and there was heaps of free parking available. The real stand out for us was the high quality of our dinner in the restaurant, it was probably the best meal we had during our two week drive around Scotland, and seriously good value too - our expectations were well and truly exceeded. This hotel is very conveniently situated for the Scrabster ferry to Orkney - no use to us on this trip, but we will know for future reference.
Great hotel with friendly staff.
The hotel is full of life with very helpful, friendly staff and a great vibe about it. It’s an older hotel and full of character.
It’s central, in a great location but not noisy.
There is free on site parking at the back of the hotel.
The breakfast was the best I had in Scotland.
Erna is a friendly, cheerful host who made us feel at home. The room was quiet and comfortable. Location is good with some good restaurants nearby. Our favourites were YNot and the Holburn Hotel. Thurso is a nice town and the main highlights such as the Castle of Mey, Dunnet Head and John O'Groats are not far away.
Friendly and welcoming from the very first. The staff here are unbeatable - I wish I could rate them 11! This is not a gimmicky, plastic, modern, luxury hotel - if you want that, go somewhere else. But if you want comfort and personal service, good food and solid value, come here.
The hotel is just a short hop to the ferry We had a downstairs room that was comfortable and clean and a window that looked out on the street. A bar and a few restaurants are next door. The furnishings are pretty basic, but adequate. I think a bit high priced though.
The staff were super helpful and friendly. Beautiful room with amazing views. Service was terrific; food fresh, hot,v tasty. Loved my stay. Having stayed at other locations, will choose The Weigh Inn Hotel now, everytime!!
We had an excellent stay at the Manor House, Thurso. Leonard and Maryellen were so welcoming and helpful. They have created a lovely relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the hotel and the room we stayed in was beautiful.
We arrived to a nice friendly welcome from the lady at reception who told us everything we needed to know regarding times for breakfast, lunch, dinner etc and all staff in the hotel were friendly and polite
Our hostess, who was a delight to speak to about the area, Scotland in general and Top Gun!
Breakfast was delicious. Filtered coffee also. Bed very comfy.
Five minute drive to the Wolfburn Distillery.
Clean well appointed house in great location for Thurso and NC500. Nice big bedrooms each with ensuite bathrooms.
Good kitchen and living room area with hot tub in a shelter out the back
Well maintained B&B with very friendly owners who were happy to help with any queries.
Much better than some of the hotels we stayed in during our Scottish trip.

Lisa was so friendly! Location was good for catching the early ferry. The hotel is a little dated, but clean and comfortable. Amazing for a building built in 1750!
The Staff were super friendly and on the ball
The kitchen/dinning area is awesome and the heat in the rooms.
Plus the garden bit at the back looked magic!
Everything. The greeting. The owners. The best breakfast in Scotland!!! The views. The hot shower. The walks outside. The beach. I could go on and on!!!
