Fun Times even if you don't speak French!
Fort-de-France is a hectic area with a lot of touristy shops and not as many attractions. A few of the restaurants on the side of the park stay open late and offer great food (see: grilled fish hut, crepe/gelato) and others are a miss. We were [generally] able to function in this area with an *extremely* limited knowledge of French. There's a lovely small beach next to the Fort that locals frequented. Sunday, there's a lot of children and families, but on the weekdays its slower and filled with visitors/tourists. Gentle blue water. And you're right by the ferry and expressway if you want to travel to different parts of the island, which you most certainly should! Parking around here is hectic and confusing to figure out at first, especially if you're like me and don't speak French (find a spot - before 12PM and after 9AM weekdays you need to pay 3 euro for a few hours -- usually, you don't need to add additional time, because no one else really does and the meter maids didn't check the side streets. Weekends, free!). Easier to get to the Volcano and Jardin de balata from Fort De France as well. The winding roads to get there resemble a go-cart track; fun to drive (if you like/do well on go-cart tracks) but I wouldn't want to be in a cab on those roads! Roads here are excellent and in excellent condition - better than cities like New York or Philly event) - so driving here isn't as scary as it sounds. Lots of roundabouts!

Good home base
Fort-de-France made getting around Martinique very easy via public transportation. We took the ferry from FDF to l'Anse Mitan to spend the day at the beach for 7€ round trip and the bus up to St. Pierre for under 10€ round trip. FDF had tons of restaurants and bars and was very walkable.

I loved Fort-de-France;
I loved Fort-de-France; great feel and cool location. I will go back. My only issue is that so much is closed during the off season that I had limited choices within walking distance for dinner and for nightlife from my downtown hotel. I'm a little surprised how much as seasonal.

It is well furnished and has all you need to enjoy your stay! the convenent code system allows you to access the apartment with no keys which helps when travelling and having to carry one less thing. The host is super kind and helpful, answering all questions we had. She even let us have a late check out since no one had rented the place after us. Highly recomended!

Location, location, location. This hotel is a short walk to/from the ferry terminal. It's also very close to the main bus lines, so you can get to/from the airport without a taxi. There are lots of great restaurants along the waterfront. The museums and fort are nearby. If you want to spend time in Fort-de-France, this is the place to be. The staff and facilities are also excellent. The wifi works well. I would stay here again.

Just a short walk to all of the main attractions in the city center. Very friendly owner always available by Booking.com messaging, WhatsApp or phone. Be aware there is no elevator, so you will have to navigate one or two flights of stairs. I will definitely stay there again.

Gorgeous views, property, and super quiet. It definitely felt like a retreat. Nice hot showers and the hot tub got really warm also which was perfect for the evening. There was a lot of little details in the room that are well thought out like converters if needed, i-pad/kindle, Netflix, games, and more. The host was really responsive and quick to respond as well. He even had a welcome gift of Rose wine for us on arrival, that was a nice touch! I would definitely recommend staying here and also stay here again in the future.
