The work was completed to a very high standard, with large airy rooms, good furniture, gleaming surfaces. The hotel keeps historic furniture used by King Farouk I in a stately room and has a large library for guests, as well as a fitness room. The scale is grand and lavish. The restaurant serves excellent breakfasts, with Egyptian specialities like foul and Egyptian cheese, French pastries etc. The all-day dining menu is varied, it was tough to choose! I only stayed 4 nights so was particularly happy to get excellent help and guidance for sightseeing from Reception staff. The staff arranged for me to meet a local guide, which enabled me to make the most of this - too short - visit, see what I was most interested in and not have to plan and research my routes at length. As a solo female traveller, sadly not speaking Arabic, I felt most unsure about orientation, getting lost and all the signage not understandable to me. What was helpful was that the hotel is located in the very centre of the city and there is no risk of losing one's way on the large busy streets and Corniche. For more niche locations I would recommend using a local guide, it unlocks the city. Overall I would stay there again. I had a great break thanks foremost to the professional and gracious staff at this hotel.
