If you like Taiwanese food, You can find them here, with infusion of local delights. The architecture here also unique which has a lot of influence from "nannying", Singapore and Malaysia influence, due to the many overseas chinese who went back to xiamen, Fujian after they made a fortune. It's a beautiful city...the local doesn't speak like typical chinese, they speaks like the Taiwanese, hence bearable.Don't expect them to speak English,in the 5 days I was there, I didn't find staff speaks English.
If you have a time, you must visit Fujian Tulou. It was very nice and good experience. You can join a group tour from Xiamen or, as I have done, you can take a long distance bus for 3.5hrs to get there by yourself.
Actually, I spent more days in the Tulou area in Fujian Province, and only one night in Gulangyu and one night in Xiamen. Tulou Area was nice and the houses are amazing, no wonder they're registered in the UNESCO, however, the food there for me was a bit scary. As I saw people there killing chickens and ducks alive in front of my eyes. I was more like a vege when I was there coz people always suggested me to try their fresh meat. Nights in those tulou were cool, for experiences it was okay, but for long life, no thanks! Gulangyu is a wonderful island, I liked it the when I arrived there, even a lot of places were under construction, however, it's still a beautiful island. I think in few years, it can be a really great sightseeing spot for all of the tourists (even now it already is). Xianmen was okay in my opinion, familiar to me, and comparing to the most popular area in the centre, somehow, I prefer all the old districts you can see the real life of the people living there.
Not a touristic place. There are more exciting places in Fujian and China. I went there to visit friends.
The Fuzhou is a nice and modern asian city. Skyscrapers, many modern and historical nice places, warm climate, insane traffic and lack of sidewalks. :-) The city is not so overcrowded and dirty like the bigger Chinese cities. There are the airport and the high speed rails as well. The surrounding areas in the Fujian province are very beautiful and it is worth visiting them too.
The Fujian Tulou were a real highlight of our trip. Very worth the travel just to visit them. We had two days there and that was prefect. You definitely need a local driver though or you'll miss out on so much. We found our driver because he was at the train station as a private taxi driver.
Organised, clean, large port city with good city attractions. Recommend Fujian Tulou Unesco heritage day trip Good food .
Xiamen is known as the cleanest city in China. I agree with that reputation. We took a high speed ferry from the impressive International Cruise Terminal & visited Gulangyu, a small pedestrian-only island across Xiamen. While in Xiamen, we toured Xiamen University, Jimei University, climbed to the very top of the hill where Nanputuo Temple is located. We enjoyed the Iron Goddess Tea (Tie Guanyin) everywhere we went to. We ate at several good Fujian cuisine restaurants along Zhongshanlu and at Gulangyu. We also dined in a nice Cantonese restaurant across the Pan Pacific Hotel. We commuted on public buses but taxis were quite reasonable.
Wonderful gateway to three Unesco sites; Gulangyu (Piano Island), Fujian Tulou, and Wuyishan. Easy to move around by cab and by public buses. Good range of food.
This is an outstanding hotel. They upgraded our room for free. I love the bathroom very much. It is clean. The towels are comfortable. The water of the shower is strong like fall! The staffs are very polite, friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet has lots of choices and the foods are good. They even have my favorite Fujian sweet peanut soup! The subway station is super close to the hotel. This is a place for you if you wish to have a luxurious trip in Xiamen.
Enjoyed my stay so much at this hotel I extended my stay not once but twice! The room rates are exceptionally reasonable and the location of the hotel is brilliant. Just within one block of the hotel are an abundance and variety of restaurants including Yunnanese, Vietnamese, French, Spanish, Mexican, and Japanese to name a few. The breakfast is varied and there is a plentiful range of both western and Chinese options. The outdoor pool is well maintained, perfect temperature and the addition of a poolside lunch menu means if you really don't want to go anywhere for food, you really don't have to! The hotel itself is very pleasant with a lovely lobby lounge area, teashop, and within the building itself there are a few restaurants including a great teppanyaki Japanese restaurant, an Italian, Thai and a steakhouse, as well as a Starbucks. You won't be stuck for options. By far the best thing about the hotel however is the staff. They really provided excellent service at all levels from the duty manager, breakfast manager, reception, housekeeping, pool attendants and concierge. It's clear that providing quality customer service is important across every department of the hotel. All the staff were welcoming and very helpful. They definitely go the extra mile here and it's very refreshing to see. Particular thanks to Maria who assisted me with city QR codes, testing centres, and organising trips and also thank you to the concierge team who were also extremely helpful and on hand when needed, particularly Levine. Thank you for such an enjoyable stay.
The staff is very nice and helpful
9/16 Service very good ,wanager Veronica
Excellent location and view, great food and we used both the 24hrs room service and the breakfast room services, and the food were great. the restaurant also is great with great view and service for a very reasonable price, the top floor offers afternoon tea with a birds-eye-view of the Gulangyu island.
Staff is awesome, by far the best hotel experience so far in my history of travelling
