The motel was on the main road but the rooms are set down the back so were very quiet. The motel is older but we expected that from reading reviews but it was very clean. It was comfortable with a small table and two chairs plus a couch. The king bed was very comfortable and cosy on a chilly night. The heat pump soon warmed up the room.

Check-in after office hours was very easy, I cannot imagine easiest. The same simple way with check-out. Great location if you want to visit Hobbit set location. We found everything needed in this accommodation. One of the best motels we had in New Zealand.

I was only there for 2 nights, but I was made very welcome. The motel was conveniently located for all needs. The purpose of my visit to the town was a special visit to nearby Hobbiton village created from the LoTR and Hobbit films. Amazing.

I loved this motel. I’ve seen other people saying it needs an update and I couldn’t disagree more. I love the vintage feel of the place and if anything I would enhance those features. Add some vintage sofas and some sunburst clocks etc. I hope they never change it. Bed was super comfy. Good amenities and the owner was really nice.

A great little motel located about 3kms from central Matamata. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and didn't laugh too much at my bad pronunciations. As we were staying two nights, we chose to stay in one of the two separate cabins. Each cabin had a separate bedroom, kitchenette, and its own car port with clothes line There are tables and chairs outside to sit in the evenings Laundromat just up the road.
