Winslow was the only affordable place in Northern Arizona...
Winslow was the only affordable place in Northern Arizona because of the crush of Grand Canyon visitors and the over-pricing of accommodations in the area. As such a site of overflow housing, it's OK. Not a destination. Most of the people staying where we did are construction workers who apparently are pretty hard on the place.

Amtrak is my favorite way to travel and the luxury of getting off the train, and then sleeping at La Posada makes my recovery from a long adventure much more pleasing. This town has its highlights and famous tourist sights in...
This town has its highlights and famous tourist sights in the heart of the town. The song by the Eagles "Standing in the Corner " is the most popular and photogenic street. A few casual places to eat and reasonably priced and the Trail Museum gives a great historical review of the town's changes through the years. The World Trade Center Pillars Memorial where it displays "United We Stand" is a very sentimental and honored place to see. Watching the trains quietly rolling along the tracks from the back yard of La Posada historical hotel gives you a feeling of yesteryear, nostalgia and serenity all at the same time.

The Restaurant and Brewery across the street from "Standing on the Corner" had the best Reuben sandwich. The list of beers and name of the beers were so representative of locations throughout Arizona. We thought that was awesome. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to have a beer. Nothing luxurious but it is a great place to stay when in the area if you don't want to pay for expensive hotels. One side note...Mojo Coffee is right next to the hotel, so you can walk to it and get breakfast and coffee. And I suggest you do....because they roast their own coffee and it was the best coffee I've had in the whole USA so far. By a large margin.

We loved the old rooms and the signs outside each room denoting which glamorous movie star has stayed in that room. Walking around in the hotel, and looking at all the artwork was a great experience. The La Posada Hotel was even better than we anticipated.
