Hikkaduwa was lovely- the beaches are not too big, but are great for swimming. I loved the turtle beach where 4 turtles could be seen morning and evening in the water. I also had the fortune to be in Hikkaduwa when the baby turtles were hatching and witnessed when they were released in the evening around sunset. The sunsets in Hikkaduwa are really unreal. The water is quite clear and so hot. What else can you want from a beach town. I personally spent most of my meals at the Hungry Bug. They offer a great selection of local food and some western food too. Everything is fresh and cooked on the spot.

This is an ideal destination for those seeking adventure, relaxation, and immersion in nature. It offers a plethora of activities, including exploring the Kanneliya rainforest, enjoying kayak or traditional boat rides in the lagoon, encountering turtles on the beach, and indulging in the variety of restaurants and souvenir shops available nearby. Truly, it has something for everyone.

The area had a good mix of shops, bars etc and prices were reasonable. You can choose to stay in central higher end hotels or cheaper options on the periphery but tuktuks only cost about 700rps from one end to the other. Perhaps 1500rps in the evening. We preferred staying outside the main area because it was much quieter but so easy to walk into town along the beautiful beach.

Lots of choice of food available from vegan/vegetarian (steffi mandala) amazing noodles and a good chilled vibe on the beach or probably the best sea food restaurant unfortunately road side was Bambinis look it up, food is excellent and a very good price. We'll stocked supermarkets. A good accommodation choice either beach or jungle.

A special shout out to Tyronne who was always greeting us with a smile and a firm handshake and to Upali who according to my wife does magical massages. He really knows the art of massage. It's directly at the beach and there are palm trees right at the property. Also, Viraj offered to prepare breakfast for us. You should definitely go with the Sri Lankan style breakfast. Each day we got something different (eg. egg hoppers, string hoppers, dal, some kind of coconut milk rice and more). And a fresh fruit platter was part of it each day. Viraj and his family are very kind and helpful people. They will make your stay unforgettable.

We luckily had a chance to taste her Western-style pasta which was really delicious. She offered us free of charge and served us without a request from us likely a surprise dinner. However, we asked her to charge for dinner and she denied it and just smiled. The staff was all friendly and attentive.

The Sri Lankan Breakfast directly at the beach is something I will never forget - you can’t start your Day better. Please order local food, it is incredibly good.
