The hotel/restaurant was straight out of a Dickens novel. The feel of the place was very English. A movie set. The staff matched the vibe.

There is a range of attractions to suit all tastes.
There is a range of attractions to suit all tastes. If you like history, there are self guided audio trails, museums devoted to the naval history and military signficance of the napoleonic and first and second world war. I came for the photographic opportunities, with massive container ships, sailing boats and the potential for glorious sunrises over the ocean. It does look a bit run down in places and I was a bit apprehensive, but everyone was very friendly, and I would sum it up as an unspoilt gem, from an earlier, more relaxed era.

Some lovely old buildings surrounded by industrial complexes. Every horizon you can’t avoid the super tank loading cranes and other industries.
If your a real ale fan, unfortunately there is very little. The Hanover burnt down so the owners opened a pop up beer shop near by. It was the only decent pint I could find. The Alma bar and rooms had an excellent atmosphere and food, but the beer is dreadful and expensive.

I was pleasantly surprised by how lovely Harwich was, there was lots of history in the old town and pretty little streets. There was not much in the way of restaurants or coffee shops but what was there was good. I ate at the Alma Inn.

During the summer months Harwich has a great deal to offer as it is by the sea, near a lovely beach which stretches to Dovercourt, and has a long maritime history. It has a new museum, upgraded cafes and park.

I had no idea until we spent some time there yesterday what an interesting and historic place Harwich is. Was particularly moved by the sculpture of the "kindertransport" children by the halfpenny pier (Jewish children sent by their parents from the NL to the UK to save them from the concentration camps). Would like to explore further.
The location is near the Harwich Ferry, only a 10 min walk, so good place to stay the night before you sail home. We also loved the room. It had a nice bed, a nice shower, it was clean and a welcome home for a night. The staff is really friendly and did not have any problems us leaving early before checkout time. Small supermarket and a big one (Lidl) is nearby and that is handy to get some food and snacks to eat on the Ferry,
The Staff at the hotel and restaurant go above and beyond. Nothing is too much trouble. The room was spotless, everything in good state of repair and for the price much more luxurious and spacious than I had expected. We have family in the area and will be visiting regularly and would not hesitate to book again
For those that have never visited Harwich the hotel is close to a lovely beech and promenade
The house was beautifully decorated with some lovely period features, extremely clean & very well-appointed. It was also very well positioned, being just yards from the seafront and the rest of historic Harwich. Thanks must go to our host, who was extremely accommodating, even going as far as to ask how we wanted the bedrooms making up!
We had our family Christmas break at the cottage, arriving on Christmas Eve for 4 nights. We know Harwich & liked the location so had plenty of seaside walks. We cooked a full Christmas dinner in the cottage & enjoyed putting the wood burner on every evening to relax. The bedrooms were comfortable & spacious.
Great location to just walk out along the waterfront to Dovercourt. Super historic town of Harwich to explore. The hotel staff were super friendly and accommodating. Loved the balcony dining, watching the sunset. Very nice room with, unusually, full Sky TV! Great to be able to open the windows.
Because of the early leave of the ferry, we had the opportunity for an extra early breakfast. Which was really nice. Breakfast was good.
The room was beautiful with great details en everything was available to make you feel at home.
Jayne was a very nice lady and made us feel very welcome.
Position for Harwich excellent and easy parking. The room we had was really beautiful, much nicer than normal hotels. Staff were worried about my husband getting up stairs and could not have been more helpful. We are hoping to return to Harwich and certainly hope they have room for us.
My stay at Driftwood cottage was excellent, great location and the old town of harwich was so historic. Lot's of lovely old pubs that all offer great food. The cottage was so cosy and we had the best sleep, would definitely recommend this place to friends and family.
A comfortable and roomy well modernised Victorian home with everything we needed for our time in Harwich. Nice to be just two minutes walk from the seafront and the off-road car parking space is useful. The area was very peaceful too. Great courtyard garden.
Bed linen colourful, bed comfortable, room decor excellent with portraits making my bedroom almost like an art museum. Clean apart from dog hairs on the corridor carpets from the hotel's dog which haven't been hoovered
The hotel was good for the price and the location. Nearest to the Dovercourt train station was an additional good point for me, due to the purpose of our visit to Harwich.
Rooms were clean and comfortable. Good value. This is a hotel above a pub, but it was not busy the night were were there. Breakfast in the pub was good.
