Mainly a passing town and not worth a night as the hotel prices are pretty steep. Less food choices as well. One way to see this place is arrive in the morning and leave by late afternoon. A few hours is what you need.

Great spot for a tour both a guided and a self guided if you have time. Just prepare for the weather if you are doing a tour on an open bus! Great Navajo guides and a great opportunity to learn more about Native American people.

in order to best take in the valley - I would give yourself a full day to do the scenic drive within the park, and check out some of the other scenic spots nearby. The scenic drive is only available for a short window mid day so plan accordingly. the formations and local pride in the area is very memorable.

The amount of construction around the scenic areas is shocking. I never expected Monument Valley to be in the middle of housing. It was a very sad thing to see. I guess it's the smell of money that changed Monument Valley into a kind of Disneyland. Based on what I saw, I would not make a detour.

Monument Valley is to be experienced!
Monument Valley is to be experienced! We both drove it ourselves and took a tour. I would highly recommend MV Dineh Rebekah (SP?) Cultural Tour which took us behind public areas and we had the attention of a Dineh Guide. It was magical.

The view on Monument Valley is great. We had one of the houses on the first row, so nothing was blocking our view on the sunset and sunrise. We were disappointed that there was no stove / cooking possibility, as we thought there would be. The great supermarket (with surprisingly low prices) more than made up for it. The small pool was fine, but you need to go to the hotel, which is about 500m up the hill. The room itself is very spacious, with a separate bedroom, a queen bed in the main area and a couch.
We had a king suite with a kitchenette (a little cottage) because we booked last minute. The unit was quite comfortable with 2 beds, a comfortable living room, bathroom, etc. It was also easy to walk outside to watch sunrise over Monument Valley.
We ate dinner in the restaurant at the resort. Our food (BBQ half chicken with pilaf and vegetables was good an reasonably priced, especially since there aren't other food options nearby.
The resort is a nice place to stay if you can't book the View Lodge.
Right in Monument Valley. Gouldings offers several different lodging options. We stayed in one of the separate “cabins” with a kitchenette. The extra space was great and the views were spectacular. We initially had a problem with the TV but someone came right away to fix it (we were missing a remote). We also booked one of their tours of Monument Valley. Scenery was great.
The man at the front desk was extremely accommodating and even let us check in early even though we did not at all expect it. The hotel is located a really short drive from the Monument Valley visitor centre and the views are incredible. we had a room with a balcony that was conveniently located to catch the sunrise in the morning. Would definitely stay again.
The location of the hotel was great. It is very close to The Monument Valley Welcome Center where many of the tours pick up. It is also close to the Visitors Center. There are many amenities on site and they actually offer tours as well. Breakfast was not complimentary, but was offered in the on site restaurant. It was very good. The staff were helpful.
Great location, easy to explore everything that Monument Valley has to offer. It was our second stay and we highly recommend it. The hotel has restaurant, general store, and pool. Everything is clean inside the cottage. All modern and in working condition. Comfortable beds, a/c works perfectly. Nice cozy patio with amazing views. Very comfortable stay.
The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The Lodge is located right outside the entrance of Monument Valley, it has a beautiful view with a glimpse of the rock monuments. Good breakfast served at the restaurant, charming small museum and lots of souvenirs and native american artifacts at the gift shop
The view. Let's face it, waking up to the view was worth it. If not, we would have stayed 15 miles away in Mexican Hat, for a lot less. The hotel is older, but in OK shape. They have remodeled, but there is only so much you can do. We did like the room, and the staff.
The view was awesome. Monument valley was great. Staff was very friendly and they had a few historical buildings to tour for a small fee. Food was good at the restaurant. And it had an indoor pool. That was great.
Excellent location. Among the buttes of Monument Valley. Very close to scenic drive and Forrest Gump point. Restaurant on site was great. Lovely communal vibe. Pool as well if you’re into that
I enjoyed Goulding’s Lodge, it’s very comfortable, with AC, Water, and kitchenette. I really enjoyed the front porch and having my coffee while enjoying a distant view of Monument Valley.
This is a typical hotel room which could have been purchased at half the cost anywhere else. However, the location could not have been better. The grandeur of the area is unmatched.
