Sagres is at the very western tip of the Algarve and has few retired expats and no package holiday makers. Its a small Portugese community with lots of young people and independent travellers who mix well and many come to surf and walk. Its got some great bars along the top of Mareta beach and people come here to do their own thing, enjoy the wild and rugged Atlantic coastline and the towns like Carrapateira, Bordeira and Aljezur

A great laid back, small, surfing resort, suitable for families, couples and individual travellers. You can get there on busses from the airport at Faro, changing in Lagos, although hiring a car would be much quicker.
The beaches, bars and restaurants are all great but the sea is quite cold, so bring a wetsuit.
You can hire bodyboards, surfboards and wetsuits on the main surfing beach at Tonel.
You can also hire bikes from local shops and cycle out to the lighthouse at Cabo da Sao Vicente. If you want to go further, there is a track across the cliffs to a local village, Vila do Bispo, although it is hard work against the strong winds, up a steady incline. Allow 2 hours from Sagres but it's much quicker coming back.
The fort is worth a visit, with a circular clifftop walk and a museum.
There is also a path for clifftop walks in Sagres.

A great base to either stay in and relax or go and explore the west coast.
Great sea food to be had and if you explore further afield you’ll discover some gems.
I’m not going to spoil your adventure so you can find them yourself.

Sagres is an amazing place to visit if you are looking for stunning views of the Algarve and the ocean, I would recommend you to go with someone, doesn’t seem REEEEALLY for solo traveling, but it’s up to you. Maybe you find love there.
Also the city is so beautiful and looks like a beach village, which I love when I’m traveling. Run away from the big cities and stuff.
It’s also good for surfing if you are up to.

Sagres is a sanctuary in Nature and the importance that Portugal had in its history at a time when the known world was divided by the Portuguese, Spanish and English courts.
You breathe pure air and feel the ghosts of good people from the past and the hustle and bustle of crowds of sailors and discoverers who set out to sea with joy in their hearts and enough daring to face the unknown.
Sagres means sacred ... Holy ground
For those who have awakened their inner spirit and Love, they will feel beautiful emotions to the point of tears of joy in their eyes.
In short, there is the Algarve with excellent beaches and hotels.
And there are Sagres! A mecca of Biodiversity, Emotions, Love, Spirituality.
It also has the best sunset on Cape S. Vicente.
There is magic and peace in a perfect symbiosis between the sunset and the people who nestle on the cliff in silence until the sun crosses the horizon line into the sea.
A Must to experience in a life time!
The location is just perfect, just above Mareta Beach, with amazing views of the sea. The decor is beach-house simplicity which we love. The room and balcony were extra spacious and also offered amazing views. The pool area has plenty of loungers and even in August was quiet,. We are regular visitors to Sagres and whilst we usually spend the majority of our trips in rental homes, we often start our stay in a hotel - this is one we will definitely return to on our next visit to Sagres.
he staff was incredibly welcoming, guiding me through all the facilities and offering great recommendations for local dining and beaches. The room was spotlessly clean and well-equipped with everything I needed. The hotel's grounds were beautifully maintained, providing a serene atmosphere for relaxation. Overall, I had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend Sagres Time Apartamentos to anyone seeking a peaceful getaway.
Everything was great!
We were welcomed with our dog, last minute, and were very comfortable.
Since we didn't plan to stay in Sagres, for us the location wasn't great, but we managed to enjoy it because of the very friendly staff and facility.
We miss the morning Portuguese nata pastry given for free 😊
When staying there, don't hesitate to ask for anything you might be missing - they will do their best to get it for you 👍
I loved this hotel. It is the hotel I stayed in after hiking the rota Vicentina. A great place to rest and recuperate from the hike. Just 250 feet from the beach, beautiful view, balcony. I love the European hotels with their balconies. It was very well located. Outside are several restaurants and shops. Located, near the center of town. This hotel worked great for my visit. Close to some historical locations also.
Tha apartment was very clean and comfortable with good wifi. Great value in November. Parking is easy, either inside their gate or right outside. It's a nice location for walking to town, marina, and beach. We enjoyed walking to the nearby bluffs overlooking Mareta Beach. It's very easy to drive around Sagres as it's not heavily populated. Plus the whole area has big, free parking lots. We loved our stay here.
A lovely apartment hotel close to the cliffs in Sagres overlooking the ocean. The apartment itself is a little bit old but it's very functional and all the facilities work properly. It's not only close to the sea and beach, but also to restaurants and shops. And the view from my balcony is one of the best in the world!
As soon as you arrive, you can feel the touch, love an effort in every detail. This lovely couple had definitely created a home in Sagres. Clean, neat, pure, warm, home-like hostel where you’ll feel welcome and part of a family.
We wish them the best, and hope to be back sooner than later.

The home is big, confortable, clean and the location is perfect, close to the city center, supermarket and the beach. David is a great host, very accommodating and helpful to visit and surf in the area. We spent a week and had a great time in Sagres, surfing at the praia do tonel and visiting the Algarve region.
Large, comfortable room. Very clean. Walking distance to town center and beaches. Good value for money. Easy access by car and street parking close by. Friendly staff, present on-site often (so far in many other places in Portugal staff isn't physically around much).
This beautiful family resport was also a lovely place for a couple without children. The beach was exceptional and so were the facilities. We were there in the off-season (January), and I imagine that it can get pretty crazy in the summer. But we loved it.
Walking distance to beach and restaurants, clean, nicely designed bathroom, cross-ventilation. Bed was without duvet cover, but I imagine that means she washes them after each guest which is good. Extra bed (rollaway) provided for our 5 year old daughter.
The hotel is situated on a very nice spot. Everything, the fortress, beaches and restorants are very close. Cozy room with a nice vew. Breakfast was tasty and sufficient. The Italian resto under the hotel provided us with very tasty Italian food.
a very clean and lovely small hotel with great view onto the ocean, walking distance to the beach, we loved the warm jacuzzi, and the possibility to use the heated pool at the neighbor hotel, good breakfast, Sagres beach is perfect
Beautiful hotel! Location was great on the water. Rooms were very nice and clean. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Felt like a small hotel even though the property was large. Breakfast buffet was exceptional.
Very nice experience, the best in our 12 day trip. Lovely location, close to the beach. There was a (slightly) heated pool. The room was clean, comfortable and fully as advertised. I wish we had stayed an extra day.
The veiw is amazing, best spot in sagres. It has loads of history, the cliffs walks from the hotel are gorgeous. The pool is lovely too and the staff + cocktails brilliant.
There is no other appartment closer to one of the nicest beaches in Portugal (Tonel Beach) than this one. The location and staff are more than excellent.
