Wow, what a gem of a hotel. This is a truly spectacular property that exceeded even our high expectations. The staff and service were fantastic and the place gives you an immediate sense of calm. The surroundings are absolutely stunning. What we also appreciated was that the food, drinks and activities were not overpriced, so you left feeling like you were not taken advantage of, which can be the case for a lot of high end hotels. The food was delicious and in beautiful settings.

Beautiful country house with a gorgeous garden and view of Monsaraz castle from the pool. The room was big and extremely clean, the water pressure in the shower was top notch and D. Márcia was super nice and welcoming. For breakfast fans, breakfast was very good and complete, with homemade cakes, bread and cereal options, fruit, boiled eggs (plus scrambled eggs and bacon upon request), yoghurt, etc.

Authentic Portugese style accommodation, nice place outside (lots of green and cosey) to have breakfast and a nice swimming pool, very good breakfast. Staff was very friendly! Close to Monsaraz and lake Algueva and dark sky tourism.

This is a beautiful quirky apartment, it was spotless. Isabel greeted us so warmly and the property had so many little extra touches that made it really special, We were there for only one night and didn’t cook but it seemed to have everything you would need. Really comfy bed and spacious bedroom. The views from the property are amazing and the little terrace beautiful. A walk literally around the corner gives you stunning views over Alqueva Lake and another few yards up the hill takes you into the caste and the village of Monsaraz. This is a truly special and individual place.

Wonderful, fantastic.
Wonderful, fantastic. I loved the peace and harmony that one can breathe, Monsaraz at the top of the Monte, and the company of the chickens, ducks and turkeys. I wrote in peace, in the company of my friends and with the guidance of the stars of a fantastic sky, the likes of which I had never seen.

A day is all you need for the city of Monsaraz.
A day is all you need for the city of Monsaraz. If you want to explore Reguengos and it's vinyards then you may not need to stay in Monsaraz itself which is difficult with cars.
We visited the week leading into Easter Sunday and very few restaurants were open in the evening, in fact we only found one so be prepared to wait and have limited choices

Nice castle. Be sure you research your stay options.
Nice castle. Be sure you research your stay options. There are rooms at the castle itself as well as nearby houses. The hotel we stayed at was a bit overpriced and disappointing.
Views are incredible from the top. 2 hours is enough to have reserved lunch at the castle and then walk around the grounds for photos. Or 1 hour without lunch. Parking is tricky and we parked near the bottom and walked 10 minutes up the hill

Monsaraz, the graceful medieval village of Monsaraz,...
Monsaraz, the graceful medieval village of Monsaraz, maintains the magic from ancient times like few others in the world. Made of lime and schist, this place whispers us, between the echo of our footsteps in its streets. A lot of magnificent stories could be told about its courageous kings, Knights Templar, brave people and dames of simple beauty.
Now the night is covering you with its cozy blanket of stars. Sit down at one of the restaurants in Monsaraz. Taste the best traditional Alentejo food, like the crumbs or the lamb. As for Alentejo wine, savour a good Reserva Monsaraz with your meal. The view over Alqueva Lake completes the sensory nirvana. Don’t finish your night without admiring the show of constellations and planets, which shine more intensely on the sky.

Monsaraz is genuinely one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. It felt like stepping back in time to a slower pace of life, a rustic, cobbled haven with the most fantastic 360 degree views of the lake, valley and the castle on top of the hill. It is well worth putting on your alarm to wake up for the sunrise when the village is still asleep and watching the place wake up including the animals on the distance. It was spectacular. The food was local and very rustic and delicious using produce from the Alentejo (we ate at Sabores de monsaraz and were hosted by Isabel, a local lady with a small but delicious local menu). The wine was also really good. It was incredibly hot (45 degrees) so would maybe be better to visit outside of the summer months. The vineyards surrounding monsaraz were beautiful we had a very special meal at Esporao, which is well worth the money having the 7 course tasting menu and accompanying wine flight, it felt like immense luxury whilst capturing the charm Portuguese food and produce. The village itself doesn’t have a shop for essentials so my advice would be to drive to reguengos de monsaraz prior to your stay to stock up on water and snacks so you can relax when you get there. It truly was a magical place to stay for a few nights.

A small walled village set atop a hill, with 360 degrees of absolutely stunning views. Not a huge amount to do in the village proper. The castle for sure. Also some excellent wine shops selling local wines (check out Ar d’Alentejo). Taverna os Templários is a must stop for lunch or dinner.
Cars can’t be parked in the village during the day, but there are several lots right outside the walls with easy access to the village.
We spent a day exploring nearby Neolithic dolmens and menhirs, lots to see within a half hour drive.
We stayed in different type of the room. First night room with a lake view without a plugged pool. 2nd night stayed with a view of countryside with a plugged pool. Both room are amazing with spectacular view. Our favorite is the one facing country side with plugged pool as it is facing Monsaraz castle. We traveled with our dog and the property is dog friendly hotel. This is the place where you wanna get away from hustle bustle life. Definitely will be back to this hotel.
Not forgot to mentioned that the staff is super helpful and friendly.
The owners are incredibly friendly and wanting to provide great service. The terraces and the views are absolutely incredible. The hotel has a family feel as it used to belong to the owner's grand-mother. Bathroom is modern and comfortable.
Monsaraz is a very special town, it's definitely worth sleeping there rather than simply visiting during the day, it is magical when the shops are closed and other tourists aren't around.
A beautifully presented and maintained small traditional house in a quiet village near Monsaraz. The house is renovated to modern standards and with its extremely thick walls and double glazed windows is comfortable and quiet. The host is very charming and helpful.
Parking is directly outside the front door which means you block the whole narrow street - not many places you can do that and it be ok!
This place is exceptional. It was one our best stays on our trip to Portugal, I couldn't recommend it more. It is a stunning property, the staff and food was great. Everything is beautiful, from the rooms, where you eat, the bike trails and where you can relax and have a drink watching the sunset. There is a beautiful town nearby that you can visit during your stay.
A lovely hotel in a quiet rural community, surrounded by farmland and gorgeous scenery. Just a 5 minute drive to Monsaraz. Loved that there was an adult section of the hotel with a rooftop infinity pool and cabanas for two. Quiet and beautiful. The room was wonderful, with a small kitchen and terrace. Just lovely.
All corners of this boutique hotel have been beautifully designed and feature soulful furniture pieces and decor. The owners and the staff are very friendly and make you feel right at home. And the breakfast… A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. Make sure you try the pão de queijo waffles with pear marmalade.
Definitely a place with a character. It must have been a hunting lodge or something like that, judging by the amount of animal trophies. Nice, comfy rooms with a view on beautiful Monsaraz. Very helpful owner. Good local restaurant nearby. Very good breakfast.
Great location with excellent view of Monsaraz castle. Nice layout which gave a sense of privacy to guests. Cute gardens with pretty flowers, little pathways and charming features. Refreshing swimming pool with nice balance if sun & shade.
Well located in the village - easy to walk around and see everything Monsaraz has to offer! What a little gem of a town and this home makes it that much better! The host was wonderful, helpful and easy to communicate with!
Everything about this newly renovated accommodation was delightful, from the friendly welcome to the tastefully decorated public rooms and the wonderful breakfast we had after our walk to the Monsaraz castle next morning.
Host very welcoming and works hard to make you feel at home, welcome and correct any issues or questions you may have. Would stay here again no question. Lovely private balcony to enjoy view of Monsaraz and countryside.
Very nice welcoming from our lovely host. Location is perfect next to Monsaraz and it is also very quiet.
The animals living around the place are really cool to see, the lama, the ponies or the 3 cute meerkats.
The room was very clean and comfortable. The property has a great location for the Monsaraz castle and is close to other points of interest. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was delicious.
Excellent location in the truly amazing village of Monsaraz. The patio is lovely, the terrace has breathtaking views (especially at sunset) and staff is very polite and helpful. Breakfast is good.
