We arrived very late because out flight from Terceira island was delayed 3 hours. We were able to communicate with the staff at Almo do Pico via WhatsApp and email (we didn't have SIM cards that supported cell service on the island). They were very helpful and understanding. They just left the door key in the door lock for us. We completed the official check in the next morning. We asked if there was a store nearby where we could buy some hiking poles for our trek up Pico Mountain. They loaned us two sets of poles for free that had been left by prior guests. Excellent service. Nice private cabins. Beautiful setting. Great breakfast.
Featuring free WiFi and air conditioning, Casas do Verdelho is set in Madalena, 5.6 mi from Pico Airport. Free private parking is available on site.

The view from the front door was an impressive view of Pico mountain. The location was great. It was close to swimming and the town of Madalena, and quiet. Lots of good restaurants and easy to get around. Shopping for groceries was convenient, as was using this location as a starting point to visit Pico.
With mountain views, this accommodation provides a balcony and a swimming pool. The villa also offers free Wifi, free private parking, and facilities for disabled guests.

I don't even know where to start. Anticipating changing corona measures, we made use of the private dinner services. Every day, we could schedule breakfast and dinner at a time of our choice, and the quality of the meals was exquisite, among the best food we had in Portugal.
Carolina, the host, was absolutely brilliant and made our stay perfect - some of the best services we enjoyed. An example: weather changed rapidly on a whale watching trip. With wind, waves and rain, even waterproof wear got soaked. Carolina offered to wash our clothing, and we were able to wear it again when climbing Pico mountain.
The villa itself is fantastic, and luxurious. Small details and facilities complete the experience: bluetooth speakers, a playstation (you don't need this), firewood, etc. We very much enjoyed the hot jacuzzi and cooling down in the pool outside. The view is amazing, changing every day. This was probably one of our best ever holiday experiences in terms of accommodation.

I had not been back to Pico Island since 1998 during the year of the earthquake in the Azores. Since that time the Azores has certainly become quite different but in a positive way. This is a small quaint village that offers you all of the modern comforts to explore the beauty that is The Azores. Despite the modern amenities it still keeps it's old world charm. Lest we forget, the wine and the food. Magnificent!

Good place to stay when traveling to Pico Island - relatively close to the airport, has all the necessary facilities (taxi, banks, supermarkets, restaurants), and there are also year-round ferries to go to neighboring islands from there.

Central to everything that is required.
Central to everything that is required. We rented a car and drove by the whole island. (110 km.). We stopped in a few villages for a coffee, or beer, or just to drive through. Madalena is definitely our favorite.

Madalena is a nice small town suitable to serve as a "base" for exploring Pico and Faial islands. The ferry port is in the city so it is easy to commute and includes several rental cars companies as well as tour guides for climbing mount Pico.
The nearby natural pools has served us to refresh after a day long trail.
We recommend checking out the local wine museum where you can find the oldest dragon tree as well as trekking in the wine trail that starts just near Madalena.
In the town we enjoyed eating at the Mercado Bio restaurant that serves a nice variety of dishes suitable for all taste and preferences.

Small town with a few restaurants and church.
Small town with a few restaurants and church. There are some nice fish restaurants. Wine museum is worth a visit.
There are a few whale watching, snorkelling, and diving companies, also companies that can arrange land tours and trekking. It is close to the Pico mountain. The problem I had was, it was off season and the tour companies did not seem very interested to arrange activities for tourists. You really have to make an effort yourself to find and arrange any activity. My initial intention was to do some scuba diving with sharks or snorkelling with dolphins. But due to weather conditions (however I have to say that on at least 3 days I was there the weather was very calm, but perhaps there was a bit of surge) and lack of engagement of tour operators it was not possible. I only was able to go on a single whale watching trip (where we did see a couple of whales).
The best part of my holiday was when I rented a car and drove around the island myself. The island (Pico) is very lush and green, very scenic.
The rooms are really big and spacious, and just opposite a really nice restaurant called Cella bar. There's also a sea spot you can swim in across the street. While it's not in Madalena itself, it's close enough to walk to it (there's no real point staying in Madalena anyway as it basically consists of 2 streets). We had views over looking the ocean and a really spacious balcony.
Cozy house at walking distance from Madalena and the Vine yards. It is not very big but has everyhing you need and very very clean. Good bed and best walk in shower. Welcome basket tonger you started in the morning and washing machine with products(not used because of weather) Big supermarkt in the area. Very quiet. Very well communication with owner and receiving keys.

Big room with daily cleaning service, a nice view of the ocean and Sao Jorge island. A place where you can stay for weeks and not just for few days. Staff and owner are friendly, location is close to the center of Madalena, close to the propriety it is a big grocery store. Parking place available.
Really great little place at a great, central location in Madalena. We stayed in the topmost suite; amazing attention to detail in terms of the decor, nice views out of the window. Debra (the manager) was super helpful as well. Cinco was a great restaurant below, as a bonus.
Room was clean and comfortable. Shower was great. Very nice breakfast included with a good variety. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Good central location around the corner from the Madalena town square. Walking distance to several restaurants and the harbour.
The house has a very rustical feeling, quiete and remote place. It was lovely to stay here. From one side you have the view on Pico (if there are no clouds) from other you see the ocean and Horta. Some 20mins of walk to Madalena centrum and ferries.
Federica and her star are so kind and always helpful sort out anything related with your stay on the island.
The views from the hotel are stunning and the rooms super cozy and clean.
Definite recommendation for your stay on pico Island
Lovely apartment in the heart of Madalena. Patricia is very welcoming and treated us kindly, we had a great stay here. The bed is comfortable and the bathroom was good too. It's a perfect base for exploring both Pico and Horta.
Very friendly host met us at our arrival at night so overall indications and the apartment presentation was clear and helpful.
Apartment totally equipped very clean and within walking distance from Madalena center and pier.
amazing location right at the port of madalena
close by foot to CWAzores for whale watching, diving or swimming with dolphins
nice bedrooms for 4 persons
kitchen available and common room to eat, play and read
Directly in front of the main church of Madalena and on the water. Rooms are comfortable. I split a regular sized hotel room with two double beds and a private bath with another solo traveler from Italy.
Proximity to the airport, to the ferry, to Madalena and to the supermarket.
Very friendly and helpful hosts, both before the travel and during the stay.
