The rooms were great, would have loved a second double bed but didn't really matter. The heater was on and the cabin warm and dry. The staff were very friendly, every thing like toilets kitchen and washing facilities were close to our cabin which was a big plus for us.

Didn’t eat at the restaurant at all as the menu was a bit average so ate in Hanmer before we arrived. We didn’t do breakfast either but only because we planned to eat elsewhere on our travels. It’s a great location to sit in a spa and soak up the stunning views but just needed a spa . Even during previous stays the spa and covers were tired and dated . This is one of the main selling points of the property so they should focus on updating these.

I grew up in Christchurch but now live in Melbourne so it was nice to take my partner there. Our family spent many stays in Hanmer growing up in the 80's.
It is nice to see that Hanmer still has the same charm and feel of Swiss Alps.
There is still mini golf; Hanmer Hotel and the walk up conical hill- all the things I remember.
It has grown and I see a lot more tourism but the Alpine resort feel especially in winter is still there....

A quiet Canterbury town with a restorative atmosphere.
A quiet Canterbury town with a restorative atmosphere. It has has not yet succumbed to big business high rise accomodation and over- commercialism, as seen in Wanake and Queenstown. It’s only 90 mins drive from Christchurch and its international airport. It’s cool in both senses. In a secluded valley off the main highway. Thoroughly recommend it for visitors to New Zealand. You can sit in hot pools, go mountain biking or walking. And there’s a farm animal zoo close by for the children. The adventurous can go bungee jumping. There’s skiing close by. And 4-wheel drives shirt and long.

Hanmer Springs is a great break away.
Hanmer Springs is a great break away. For most people, the Hot Pools, nice accommodation and restaurants are the main attractions. Our only negative is that as we drive a Battery Electric Vehicle, there is no fast charger in Hanmer Springs. There are two slow chargers at the pools, and we made use of one of those while we had a swim. The nearest fast charger is at Culverden and there's always a queue in our experience.

The Hot Pools are a great drawcard, always popular.
The Hot Pools are a great drawcard, always popular. Some great restaurants, cafes and bars. Lots of trees, provide welcome shade in summer. Plenty of walking and cycling tracks. Water sports - rafting, jet boats, fishing etc. Craft market on a Saturday. Always a busy place for locals and tourists, so book early.

The Mountain View’s were beautiful and the walking track varied from easy to difficult. The town was very pleasant, clean and well taken care of. The pools were wonderful and especially enjoyed being able to swim laps in the big pool which was never crowded. Overall it was a very pleasant place for a vacation
Comfortable suite with a terrace facing really pretty gardens and the mountains beyond. Comfy king bed. Huge bathroom supplied with lots of towels and toiletries. Some cooking facilities. Microwave, kettle, toaster, dishes, cutlery.
Quite clean and efficient. Walking distance to town and hot pools. Hanmer Springs is a sweet town with lots of nice restaurants, bars and shopping. Access to hiking is fabulous. We did Mt Isobel... gorgeous views!! The information centre is very helpful. Definitely would recommend that you stay here.
I booked the retreat for my partners birthday. We read the reviews after booking with non refundable and thought to ourselves ohh no what are we in for anyhow our stay was nothing like what we had read. We were very happy with our choice in stay. I'm a clean freak and after the reading the reviews, nervous was an under statement.... it wasn't immaculate but overall was 9/10. I hope this review helps others when looking for accommodation in Hanmer. We booked the spa bath room! Thankyou 🙂
Dave and Jill are marvellous hosts - extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. They go out of their way to help you get the most from your stay in Hanmer with their broad local knowledge. The views from the lodge are captivating and the gardens add to the beauty and restfulness of the location overlooking the village. The accommodation is luxurious with great attention to detail and comfort. An essential choice for a memorable experience in Hanmer Springs.
Nice location about a five minute drive from the spa area. There are forest walks in the preserve across the street from the holiday park that lead to town (about a twenty minute walk). This is an older property, but the owners have put a lot of effort into the rooms and the shared toilets are clean with plenty of hot water. The kitchenette in our room was well-equiped. There was a shared larger kitchen and a laundry, neither of which we used.
The host, Tristan, was super friendly. He welcomes us, walked us to the property, explained to us where was what, and also a bit about Hanmer and Kaikoura. It was a very good experience. The house itself was nice and 'cosy' with separate rooms, and a good sized kitchen. There was even a dryer which was fantastic. Five minutes walk from the springs which was fantastic!
Massive sized television which had Netflix! Loved it!
The staff were super friendly and offered a lot of advise about attractions and told us we could book cheaper activities if we said that we were staying here which was awesome. The room was lovely and was a very generous size for a hotel room. With lovely big bright bathrooms. I would highly recommend and I would be more than happy to stay here again. It is also very close to amenities
I was pleasantly surprised by this motel. Hadn't stayed before but would definitely stay again. Heater and heated towel rail in bathroom was a big plus for me and not always found in motels. Also a nice touch fly spray and in toilet a can of air freshener. The bed was comfortable and cosy, I didn't want to get out! Comfortable couch converts to queen size bed.
Lovely modern and comfortable accommodation in park-like grounds. The owners are super nice people who make you feel at home and will go out of their way to be helpful. I liked it so much that I came back for a few more nights. I've stayed in 3 other Hanmer Springs hotels/motels previously and this is my favourite. Also the best value for money.
2km outside the city go grab yourself a little slice of nature. The cabins are cheap, well furnished, comfortable, and come with heating. The facilities are all better than I ever would have expected. Skip the fancy overpriced hotels and come here for a lovely stay.
Rooms and amenities were clean. Plenty of room within cabins for a young family. Amenities were well setup and all facilities available. Even had proper hot showers that were free!! - most other holiday parks we experienced on this trip were charging for shower use.
I have stayed at Drifters Inn quite a few times now. I enjoy going to Hanmer Springs as I travel frequently to the South Island, having an office in Dunedin. This time I had my friend Laila with me and we both enjoyed staying at Drifters Inn.
Lovely heritage hotel in the heart of Hanmer. The beds were so comfortable. Had a jug and tea and coffee facilities plus a small fridge. Basic continental breakfast was ok and appreciated. View from the window was amazing.
What a pleasant surprise. We though staying in the forest camp cabins would be roughing it but found that it more than was satisfactory. We made use of the communal kitchen which had everything we needed.
The owner waited for us to arrive, was super friendly and helpful and blessed us with an upgraded room. Hanmer Springs itself and the town were both amazingly beautiful. Highly recommended.
Absolutely stunning room and bathroom, just pure luxury. Will definitely re visit. We had terrible weather but the hotel was fantastic and having a lovely spa outside was just heaven.
I love the Hanmer Springs hotel. I think it's suffering from Covid downturn as it was very quiet. The rooms are comfortable and clean and the garden setting is beautiful.
