The Village House, hotel in Santubong

Situated in Kuching, The Village House is just a 3-minute walk from Santubong Beach and a 7-minute drive from Santubong Mountain and the Sarawak Cultural Village.

It was a very unique accommodation with basic facilities. Thank whole area is very clean as the staff kept it clean all the time. We were expected to take off our shoes/sandals/slippers at selected places within the resort. You can rest assured that the pool is very clean as the gardener or uncle keeps it clean every single morning. Not only he cleans the pool but the surrounding area too. If you like a quiet place for rejuvenating and don't mind the weather, this is a good place to be for few days.

Extremely friendly staff. Very friendly welcome with drinks, and small snack. Huge room. Nice view over the sea. Definetely the best option in the region. Breakfast was very nice, automatic coffee machine, espresso, capuccino....etc. Restaurant in evening served very nice food which was very well presented. Prices for wine not too high. Good parking options for cars. Extremely big swimming pool. Relatively clean beach, warm water.

Permai Rainforest Resort, hotel in Santubong

Permai Rainforest Resort is an eco-friendly resort at the foot of Mount Santubong, a 5-minute walk from Sarawak Cultural Village. The resort offers a café and barbecue facilities.

If you love nature, just go here. The treehouses (we had number 5, which has an almost free view to the sea) are situated in the middle of the Rainforest and we saw different kind of monkeys from our balcony passing by. The treehouse was clean and freshly painted. Staff is kind and there are several activities . We went with KC on a nighttour and he showed us several nocturnal animals / insects. The restaurant is good.

Breakfast selection was very limited and the time taken for replenishment was slow. The pool facilities overall was as what we expected (decent), but we had a very unpleasant experience with the team building group that were present. There was loud techno music being played by the pool reception staff and when I approached him to request for him to either change the music or tone down the volume, he informed me that the music was requested by the other guests. I was later informed by the staff concerned that he did not have a choice but to honor the guests requests (which is totally understandable), but what made it a total turn off was the fact that the management did not put conditions on these types of guests requests which potentially disrupts the peace and serenity. I could go elsewhere if I'm being a "Karen" about this feedback, but it's my honest review. Apart from the crappy techno / rave music that was blasting from the pool area and the poor selection of breakfast, I'd give 4 stars for the service/ hospitality by the staff in general.

Nice place for the location, beach & mountain. Breakfast & other meals can be improved ~ however we should give management grace period post lockdown. Please improve the wifi - it can’t be used. Visit Cultural Village- it is within walking distance & nicely set up.

Visited on 30/12- As it was high tide, it was not safe to swim during our visit. But when low tide in the morning, you can walk quite far Scenery of the hill was great. There was a small waterfall nearby the resort where you can go have picnic. Sarawak Cultural Village is quite rundown now, they should have more attractions as the entrance fee is already high. Shuttle from resort to Kuching is convenient. Those who love nature can go hiking at Mount Santubong. There is a bazaar with stalls selling food and also 7-Eleven store in front of the Sarawak Cultural Village.

Quiet , attractive village where real people live.

Quiet , attractive village where real people live. Not touristy. Short drive from Damai beach which is good and has a few restaurants and shops. Cultural Village very ibteresting and the show there well worth sering Quite a way out from Kuching, but we had a hire car so were able to get about easily. Our accommodation could have arranged day trips if required Roads are good in general once outside the city busy roads.

It was sad that the Indonesian fires had such an impact on the atmosphere. Most days we weren't able to see the mountain. When the haze lifted it was better. So glad that we were staying in the confines of the amazing Village House.

Make sure you see Irrawaddy dolphin, Proboscis monkeys and Orangutans all in their natural habitat. Amazing nature. Kuching was a great surprise as well. Such a developed city in the middle of the jungle.

The treehouse was perfect - simple but comfortable and with everything I needed. Clean and in good condition. The bed was good, there was a kettle, fridge and nespresso, full functioning bathroom, and a balcony overlooking the sea. Food from the nearby Feeding Tree was good and not overpriced. I guess the other options for food would be the next resort, which has at least one bar, and some food stalls (and a 7-11) near the Cultural Village and within walking distance. Both beaches are good but disappear at high tide.

We loved our stay at the Village house. The house was full of character and perfect to relax in the pool or lounge areas after the outdoor activities around Sarawak. Laurence and the team helped organise our activities including Bako(~40min cab) and Semmenggoh (~1hr cab) and gave plenty of great local tips. The Food on site was great with a good range of local dishes. We would definitely recommend staying hear if you want to explore Sarawak and don’t want to stay in Kuching. We hope to revisit one day!

Surrounded by stunning Santubong mountain and vast ocean, this place offers absolute tranquility for getaway from the city. The room are well-designed and clean, the staff are friendly and pool is chef-kiss. ❤️

The sea and nature around are wonderful. But this is not the merit of the hotel. Great pool on the mountain, they can take you there from the reception. On the way back, you can go down the stairs directly to the beach.
