Went to Shimoda mid Sept which was lean season for summer adventure so less people around. It offers good beaches and many water activities. Stayed for a week which gives us relaxing time to enjoy the beach and places to see.

Great town right on the coast, has a number of great beaches nearby and beautiful rocky coastlines and cliffs to see. It is more of a tourist town though, so expect prices of things to be high. Be ready to hear constantly about Commodore Perry and the Black Ships! Some things require you to sign up or buy tickets well in advance; it's worth looking up anything you're interested in trying beforehand to see if it does. Best coffee we had was at the Hana Cafe, best food was the South Cafe.

it was an amazing place to reset your mind and body. it releases the stresses of our daily lives and prepares us for the days ahead. seafood was amazing and there are a lot of convenience stores around the area so travelling on a low budget is not a problem. public transportation is also available.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Beach Inn Shirahama.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Beach Inn Shirahama. It's right across the street from a lovely beach and the breakfast was quite nice. We loved the 2 outdoor onsens that are built on the 1F. Great to watch the stars from there amidst the treetops!

We had a Japanese style room, very spacious and comfortable. Beautiful onsen as well, both indoor and outdoor. We did not visit the pool, but it looks nice and well equipped (I saw a loots of umbrella and sunbeds and also they provide floats for kids and adult as well.). Finally the hotel has a free parking, that's a very appreciated perk if your coming by car. Highly recommended.mlvigniJapan

Was one of the best parts of my stay in Japan. Lovely beaches and coast nearby. The bus (S30 stand 9 if I recall) leaves from right outside the railway station so it's easy. Bus drops you at the beach a short walk to the property. Buses run regularly around the area and there is a two day bus pass you can get from place next to McDonalds straight outside the railway station.IanNew Zealand

They were very helpful in all our needs from the shuttle to and from the hotel, the check-in, the food, and everything else. The place is also clean and very comfortable. Although there are no near konbinis, you can buy food and drinks in the place which is very convenient. I was able to rent a bike for two days very cheaply from TOMI, and the beds were very comfortable and the dorm was quiet. Loads and loads to do in the area!

The Ryugu Sea Cave and a Sand Ski Resort are in a walkable distance. Contains a big bathing area, and a washing mashine. Friendly and helpful housekeepers. Pretty affordable too.
