The Jewel in the Sicilian Crown
As you admire crystal-clear turquoise seas from a Taormina piazza swathed in vibrant pink blossom, you could be forgiven for thinking that you were in paradise. The stunning location of this picturesque town is its crowning glory.
However, it’s not its only glory. Surrounded by trees just below the main town, the Greek Theatre is also a triumph. Its largely intact seating offers wonderful views across the stage towards Mount Etna fuming away in the distance. Spine-tingling summer performances are still held here, and several of the town’s bars also offer live music.
Corso Umberto I runs through the heart of Taormina, from Piazza Corvaja to the 13th-century cathedral, and houses many shops and cafés. Midway along is Piazza IX Aprile, whose clock tower and church are overlooked by a rocky hill topped with a castle.
A cable car runs from the town down to the beautiful Taormina beaches (where the train station is also found). At the centre of the W-shaped bay is little Isola Bella, an island nature reserve. To the south-west is the long stretch of sand at Giardini-Naxos, and north is the bay by Mazzaró.
As you would expect of Sicily’s most beautiful resort, there is no shortage of Taormina accommodation on Booking.com, including 5-star hotels on the beach, town centre apartments and luxury B&Bs.

We were unlucky with the weather so didn’t do as much as we would have liked . You’ve got to be aware the hotel is a long way away from centre so might not suit everyone. Good shuttle service though and good view from hotel. Taormina is very crowded

Taormina is a good base-point for tours of Mt Etna.
Taormina is a good base-point for tours of Mt Etna. There are probably more tours running from Catania, but you can get a good tour from Taormina. The city itself is touristy, but clean and well organized. I won't throw the word "safe" out there, as we felt safe everywhere in Sicily, but we felt very comfortable in Taormina. Of course the sights and history don't compare to the bigger places in Sicily such as Siracusa, Palermo, or Agrigento, but that's not Taormina.

The city/village of Taormina was great for sightseeing.
The city/village of Taormina was great for sightseeing. We visited the ancient amphitheater, and enjoyed hiking in the area. There were an abundance of good shops and restaurants to visit. The City public park was a wonderful mix of trees and walking paths with some amazing “follies” - odd and artistic small buildings, built to entertain the eye.

The location of Taormina looking down to the coast is very beautiful. There was plenty to explore for a few days e.g. the Ancient Theatre, the beach at Isola Bella within walking distance or by cable car. For us the highlight was a visit to the hilltop village of Castelmola which provided fantastic views, including snow capped Mount Etna.
The main drawback of Taormina is the fact it is rather crowded even in late April when we visited. Also there are too many shops selling the same tourist tat.
A wonderful place to stay. A family owned business that go above and beyond to make their guests feel so welcome and have the best stay. Rooms are very clean and comfortable, a good selection of food at breakfast and location is great, a short 10 min walk into the centre of town. Will highly recommended this accommodation to anyone visiting the area of beautiful Taormina. We loved our stay at Hotel Soleado.
It was the best location and the best view of Taormina! We stayed in the room ‘Vista mare’ and had an amazing experience. It was super clean and included everything that we need. Host was super nice and helpful and guided us really well with the restaurants and bars around. The breakfasts were in someother property (close to the hotel) and the view there were amazing as well. Strongly recommend this place.
Alessandro, the host/manager was very kind, helpful and spoke very good English (which I found is very rare in Sicily...even with people that work with tourist).
The location of the hotel was very convenient for me, very close to Via Umberto, the Main Street.
The Hotel was very quite (even though is very near to the centre) and very clean. It has an elevator, which is not usual.
Fabulous hotel near the sea between Taormina and Naxos! Our rom was much bigger than we expected and had a large balcony. The pool was also big and had great views. The breakfast was great. Free outdoor parking available near the property. It’s about 20 mins’ walk steep uphill to the centre of Taormina but the views on the way are beautiful. Would definitely recommend this place!
The location of the hotel is perfect and right in the centre of things in Taormina. The hotel has a authentic Sicilian charm with beautiful sea views from the balcony. But what made this place was the host and how helpful and advised us on excursions, restaurants and getting around. We would highly recommend this hotel for anyone who wants to visit Taormina.
UNAHOTELS Capotaormina is the quintessential place to spend your relaxing vacation. It has simply everything you might need in a luxury hotel. The hotel was very clean and the staff friendly and accommodating. The valet parking (extra fee) was a definite plus as driving in Taormina is not for the faint of heart- let alone finding parking. All the comforts of a high end hotel. The breakfast had many choices to suit any preference. Easy walk to the main center.
It is a good hotel that is very well located for visiting the center of Taormina and accessing restaurants in the evening. We had a terrace with an amazing view, very clean and comfy.
There is a lovely garden with turtles, just a few steps away and you are on the main walking road with all the restaurants and shops.
The staff were amazing. Gave us lots of information about finding our way around Taormina and were always kind and helpful. Breakfast was very good and filling. Rooms were clean. The hotel was located near the centre, within walking distance of all the restaurants and the Antico Teatro and Community gardens.
On booking in we were warmly welcomed, shown around & taken to our room. The terrace is sublime, lovely relaxing seating areas. Breakfast had everything you could want. A short walk down steps or gentle slope & we arrived at the very centre of Taormina. Beautiful hotel. Definitely stay again !!
Location was perfecto! 10 mins walk to the city centre and the views are the best in all Taormina. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The shuttle to the beach was fantastic and the pool too was great to relax after exploring the city. I would definitely recommend hotel Mediterranee!
The hotel is very well located, just a five minutes’ walk to the many shops and restaurants of Taormina. You are without doubt here in one of the most beautiful spots of Sicily.
And the view from the room is magnificent: blue skies, the Mediterranean Sea and the mount Etna. Spectacular.
The view from pool and breakfast area and the private beach were absolutely exceptional and amazing. This luxury stay is definitely a special stop when visiting Taormina. You don’t want to leave the hotel. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable.
A very well located hotel close to the centre of Taormina. Staff were helpful, breakfast good and overall facilities were what was to be expected for the price range. In summary a very good mid priced hotel in an expensive tourist hotspot.
Very well run hotel with extremely kind and pleasant staff. The private beach is great, breakfast is good, bathrooms clean and renovated and beds very comfortable. Also shuttle to Taormina is great.
