Such a beautiful little seaside village that comes to life at night. Could have stayed longer and enjoyed the views, vibes and people. Also we found the pricing cheaper for food and drinks. I must stop

The room was clean and relatively new looking.
The room was clean and relatively new looking. There is no wifi or tv in room. They have wifi at the bar and should be able to get it to rooms with routers but have not bothered. The bed was a disaster, it was hardest bed I have ever tried to sleep on. My wife and I both hardly slept and had sore back in the morning. We have been travelling for over 5 weeks had no problem with any other beds.

There is a great vibe at Matala that differs from the rest of Creta. The hippie feel is true. We caught live music the night we were there and it was the best moment.
This along with the red beach - strongly recommend.

Matala is a tourist hot spot.
Matala is a tourist hot spot. So a lot of restaurants there, lot of tourist shops with souvenirs and a lot of people. The beach itself is not that big, but it was nice though. I mean it really depends on what you are looking for. I am more fond of less crowded and less touristy places, so perhaps next time I would look for something more matching my preferences. On the other hand there is nothing wrong about Matala at all. All the people there are very friendly. Really it depends on what you prefer...

Matala is a quiet little town with not a lot of traffic, music or noise. You come here to relax. If you like naturist beaching this place is definitely for you (Red beach and Komos beach).
Moreover, Matala can be a good base for visiting the area (you have to rent a car or a bike).

Beautiful little hippie Place with lots of Restaurants, Bars and Cafés.
The beach in matala, the red beach and the caves of matala are a must see. When you are in matala I would recommend the Restaurants Georges Yard, Plaka and Hakuna matata.
Wonderful rooms and terrace area, simple and comfortable. The owner is very kind and helpful, giving me a welcome coffee and even fixing me up when I injured myself! The rooms can be cleaned daily. I had everything i needed and was very happy here- ended up extending for a few days! The location is quiet and good (especially if you've rented a car, it's a 1 minute drive to town... although in high season i imagine once you've found a parking spot, you won't be much closer than the hotel!) There was a kitchen available onsite.
Despite of the apartment is located next to the main road , the location is very good, it takes around 6-7 minutes walk to get to the beach and the center of Matala. It has free parking.
The rooms are simple, but you find everything what is necessary for your stay and comfort ( towels, air condition, plates to eat, enough space for your luggages). The bathroom is spacious. The owner is flexible with the arrival time, that we highly appreciated.
Good budget option, 10 min walk to the beach and restaurants. All clean and quiet surrounding. Ok bathroom. Very good, strong wifi. Pictures give a bit more modern look than reality but stlli all is nice and good. Very big terrace. Flexible check-in. Parking by the house. Some tableware and kettle to prepare small breakfast.
Absolutely stunning view from the room! I screamed from joy when we entered the room. It was like being in an aquarium :))) Hanging high over the beach, view of the whole village and the bay, sunset, airy, the studio was a very nice size, open space with a living room part and a lovely kitchen, huge fantastic fridge.
The hotel is 5 stars in terms of cleanliness and peacefulness!
The breakfast is generous and is made home (jams, cakes and honey)!
We received a warm welcome.
It is located at 1.4km from the beach and the restaurants. It is an easy flat walk.
Matala is a great place: absolutely beautiful and chill !
Great location next street to the very center of Matala, room was cool without having to use the air-condition.
The beaches are close and Hotel Sofia has umbrellas for the the guests, so you don't have to pay for one at the beach every day.
Γιώργος is an excellent host, we had a great Raki!
Very tidy, nice and well equipped apartment in the middle of Matala and just a few steps from the beach. The roof garden is awesome with great view over the bay and to the famous caves. We always sat there for breakfast. The owner was very kind and always helpful and supportive!
Very easy to collect the key from nearby café. Worth the money modest room with small kitchen (glasses, kettle, etc). Very pleasant to have a compliment - raki, apples & litre of retsina! Beach in 1 minute - the middle of Matala!
Thank you!
Exceptional place to stay in Matala … super friendly and caretaking host family.
Close to beach and Restaurants but situated in very quiet and peaceful surrounding … we loved the place and enjoyed every minute. Thanks again …
The location is perfect: just in the center and near by the beach but at the same time in a very quite area. The terrace was very nice and had some shadow, We loved this hotel. Unfortunately we stayed just for one night.
Breakfast was exceptional. Place was very clean. Shower pressure fantastic.
Apartment had all the amenities and was very quiet. I will definitely stay here again if ever back In Matala!
Great location, easy parking, friendly owners. A small room was all we needed for a couple days at the beach. As a bonus, beach umbrellas were available for us to use!
The location was great, just a short walk from Matala town and the beach. The breakfast was very good!! Lots of choice eggs, yoghurt, fruit, pancakes etc.
Friendly owner (Maria), walking distance to two amazing beaches and everything else in the town of Matala. Lots of room in the apartment. Jacuzzi upstairs
