A few miles from the Belgian border, Lille displays Flemish influence in both architecture and cuisine. Its most famous square - Grand Place - is home to the beautiful Vielle Borse building, the Lille Christmas markets and several restaurants serving moules-frites and local beer.
Behind that is the Palais Rihour, a rather odd-looking building surrounded by cafes. In the opposite direction is another square with the opera house at the centre and triangular-shaped buildings fanning off in 3 directions. One of these cobbled streets leads to the Old Town, where boutiques and international brands are in beautifully crafted shops.
Shopping in Lille is actually epic. It has Europe’s largest bookstore (the 8-floor Furet du Nord) and largest flea market - the Braderie de Lille. Then there is the bustling Wazemmes market and the huge Euralille shopping centre. The town also has some fantastic chocolate shops.
Other attractions include the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Citadelle – a 17th-century fortress surrounded by a free zoo and gardens.
Lesquin Airport is on the city’s outskirts, but most visitors arrive at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, named after Lille’s most famous son. If travelling to Lille by Eurostar, check out the mural of famous European landmarks before heading to your Booking.com hotel, B&B or apartment.

What is good is the fact that the two mainline stations are so close, very easy walking distance apart, approx 15 mins. I really enjoyed walking around, I must of walked 4 - 5 hrs on the day I arrived, after of course having had a shower and few moments rest on my bed. I'd encourage any first timer to France to go, my French is almost none existent, I learnt it, or didn't learn it at a very poor school many years ago, when we had to translate straight from French to Welsh, and my Welsh was not brilliant, we also had a teacher like a bear with a sore head, so I only did one year; still I got by and was understood on a good number of occasions.

Beautiful architecture, compact and easily explored by foot, very flat too. Fantastic food options. I was surprised to find shops closed on Sunday though, fortunately the Palais des Beaux Arts was open and free to enter.

This was our fourth trip to Lille.
This was our fourth trip to Lille. We fell in love so much with this city that we hope to one day call it home. A city filled with adventure, kind people and so many beautiful places to explore. If we could move today, we would! Take time to explore this gem of a city, for it has become one of our favorite places in the entire world to visit.

Lille is a great old Flemish city I used to study in 20 yrs ago.. I definitely recommend to visit.
Unfortunately I didn't have that much of free time to do sightseeing this time due to my business trip preoccupations this time.
everything! We have travelled over 39 years for over 50 countries and have stayed different places all over. This is one of the best in terms of location, facilities and value for the money. Metro is 5 mins walk to get to Lille old town. The room is clean and shower is powerful. Wifi signal is very strong and efficient. There is a mini kitchenette to use with necessary items but we did not use it. Throughly recommend this place and will go back again if we go back to Lille. And Lille is an amazing place to see!
This hotel is in a beautifully restored historic building, but the interior is very modern and functional. The area is some distance away from the city centre but it's a nice area and some of the Lille's best museums and restaurants are right round the corner. We didn't have breakfast in our rate, but we were able to order a 'half breakfast' to take to our room (juice, coffee, pastry) which at 6 euros was pretty good value. Lovely staff too.
This is a terrible hotel with rude, unhelpful and disrespectful staff members. They charged us twice for our room and refused to give us a refund even though it was due to the fault of an incompetent member of staff who could not speak or understand English. Also, we would not recommend this hotel as it is within the ‘red light district’ of Lille and on many occasions we passed ladies of the night on our walk home from the city centre.
Not a lot to be honest. The walls in the room were peeling away and the room smelt of fumes. We only stayed for a few hours. We initially asked if we could change rooms and were told they were fully booked. I tried to sleep but the fumes gave me a headache so we left at 11:30 pm and went and stayed at another hotel. I did ask for my money back for the second night, but was told that wasn't possible.
The location is perfect to explore the very picturesque historic centre of Lille with delicious restaurants, bars and bakeries nearby. But is still extremely calm and the bedroom is at the rear of the building. The apartment is spacious and ingenious with clean, contemporary decoration. Great alternative to a hotel. Secure underground carpark 2 minutes walk away.
We traveled on a budget for business and needed a place with parking outside of the city center. We didn't spend too much time on the premises but our room was very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. Best part of the stay was after a long day, being able to hang in the back patio, eating the delicious pizza made on site and drinking a local beer.
The location was perfect, right near to the main squares and the old town. There was lots to do and see locally and within walking distance. There was a safe and secure car park within 3 mins walk (Lille Nouveau Siecle).
Despite being so central the hotel was very quiet, and it was exceptionally clean and well catered in the kitchen.
Amazing staff who couldn't have been more attentive and helpful. Fantastic location, easy to walk into the old town of Lille and very quiet, even though only a few hundred metres from busy bars and restaurants. Very generously sized room with extremely comfy bed and pillows. Large walk-in shower.
This hotel stay added to an amazing experience. The staff were all so nice and accommodating! The hotel location was above expectation it was centrally located in the center of Lille! Not only is it super clean and appropriately supplied, but I actually enjoyed the artwork and the room decor.
The hotel is centrally located, just between two main rail stations and the shopping centre. Ideal for a short stay if you're taking a day in Lille or changing trains. Metro stop is also just outside. My room was ready for an early check-in and I didn't have to store my luggage before 15:00.
A suite in the central place of Lille! This hotel exceeded all expectations that I have. The room is spacious and clean. It would be hard to miss the hotel from the train station. Its easy access to the shopping centre is convenient, too. They have a small fitness studio as well.
The hotel is a short walk from Lille Europe station and in the town centre. It is the ideal base to explore Lille. The buffet breakfast is excellent and the staff very helpful. The room was compact but no problem for one night. Great choice of restaurants nearby.
The hotel was centrally located and in great condition. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was amazing, certainly prepared with great care. This hotel gives one a great way to enjoy Lille for a few days.
Very helpful front desk staff made up for the many shortcomings at this hotel. They arranged our local travel and could not have been more helpful.
The location is very convenient to the centre of Lille
Perfect position for train stations. Easy walk into main areas of town…..
A basic hotel but a perfect weekend retreat for those interested in Lille as opposed to fancy hotel features……
The hotel is in a fabulous location to explore the centre of Lille. The beds were comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful, and the reception area was a great place to relax.
Modern, clean hotel within easy walking distance to the centre of Lille. Appreciated the secure parking which meant we did not have to park the car in the centre of Lille.
The hostel is located in amazing place of the old town, all the places are easily accesible. I really liked the curtains near every bed - it gives some private space.
