This is a great area if you like a quiet village, nature, walking, hiking, biking, swimming in nearby lakes. My hotel, Alpenblick, was a perfect location for all of this. Having a car helps, but there are buses to most places in the area and train connections from nearby towns. One big hub is Steingaden from where you can get to most places. This area is a good place to slow down, relax, recuperate if you are living in a fast paced city and all that it entails. People are friendly and helpful if the hotel staff are anything to go by.

Nice village 10 minutes from the Ticketoffice for the castles (at the bottom of Neuschwanstein castle - starting point to discover the castle). Best place to stay with nice view on the mountains and no tourists (contrary to Fussen and Neuschwanstein). Some good restaurants around also :-) more local

The house is on the main road, it is easy to reach Schwangau to visit the castles and wonderful town Füssen is also nearby. While the price is high compared with the modern and new hotels in the cities, apparently it is moderate for the location of Foggersee. The room was standard in style and size for alpine/village family run establishments. The breakfast was good. The young man who serves as receptionist and waiter was very pleasant and does his best to be very helpful. The communication in English/German is limited.

Absolutely cannot fault this hotel a five star in our eyes. The welcome we received was fabulous, immediately offered us a drying room for our wet motorcycle gear and an evening meal even though we had not booked half board rather than needing to head back out into the rain. Meal was so good we booked in for the following night. The location was breath taking overlooking the mountain, within easy reach of many lakes and Neuschwanstein castle. Loved the honesty bar and garden to have a relaxing drink of an evening.

The breakfast was extremely pleasant, well organized with many attractive offerings. The room was comfortable and clean and warm on a rather cold, rainy night. The location was sublime with the view across the way stretching off to the mountains in the south--a heavenly spot. I received excellent advice about driving to my next location from a hotel employee who came around at breakfast to ask us how our stay was going. This advice was important and encouraging to me

One of our favorite hotels on our trip. Great parking, fabulous staff, both at the front desk and at the restaurant. The food at their Italian restaurant was delicious and the portions were huge. We stayed in a newly built, add-on section of the hotel and the rooms are extremely clean and comfortable. They offered a complementary bus pass which was very helpful. A great hotel for value and location to tour the castles.

It was our last day in Bavaria, after a week touring from the Black Forest. Had to see the Neuschwanstein Castle, but be at Munich Airport the following day for a flight home. Worked like clockwork ! Staff eager to please, nothing too difficult. Hotel and Restaurant run separately, but everything seamless. Excellent meal in the restaurant, after lots of walking, and the morning breakfast was wonderful.

We had a wonderful holiday at the hotel. The location is great and the breakfast is rich and tasty which includes vegetables and fruits. But what really made the stay great are the hotel staff. The two girls and boys at the reception are so kind, they welcomed us with a smile and helped in everything possible, and it is very important that they speak English. Really a hotel worth staying at

The location was great. Plenty close enough to the castles and easy to navigate to. The room was spotless. Plenty of privacy and no noise.. The hostess was delightful and provided a great breakfast with fresh cooked eggs and the normal continental breakfast items.. The bathroom was plenty large enough and not cramped like some European hotel rooms. We would definitely stay here again.

The terrace was nice. The room was clean. The staff were friendly. Breakfast was good, but not as great as in other German hotels. There's a small drinks/snack room based on honor system. Guests have access to a small common space and the backyard. Plenty of free parking. It's quiet. Dog friendly (with a fee).

We had a great one night stay at Hotel Bannwaldsee. Room was very comfortable and clean. We had dinner in the restaurant and ordered the steak. We have been travelling in Switzerland & Germany for three weeks and I can say was the best meal so far. Beer was also excellent. Thanks

Very cozy and quiet hotel in a beautiful area. Rooms are simple, but very clean and tidy. Outstanding view from the balcony to the Alps and cute garden. There was a small pack of sweets as welcome gift in the room, and a kettle with a selection of tea.
