The Landschaftpark is a fantastic park based on a truly industrial setting. The view from the top of the no.5 blast furnace is excepitional. It's free entry and is only a 1.90 euro tram ride from Hbf.
Wholesome food and their own beer from Brauhaus Webster completed a great day.

This is a place for all seasons.
This is a place for all seasons. The city is hospitable, multicultural and pedestrian friendly. It’s also very dog friendly. I noticed that dogs are allowed in the shopping malls and I saw dogs allowed in almost every shop including department stores.

I didn't go to Duisburg to see the city.
I didn't go to Duisburg to see the city. I went to see the opening night of the opera house's production of Wagner's opera "The Flying Dutchman". The musical and dramatic standard was very high, and it was a most memorable cultural experience. It is not just a beautiful opera house, it offers many fine productions year round. The city is only about 10 minutes from Dusseldorf airport, so easy to get to.
Apart from the Opera House (Theater Duisburg) I can't think of any other reason I would want to visit Duisburg. Pity that Booking.com does not list the opera house as the major cultural venue worth commenting on.

The harbours are awesome.
The harbours are awesome. I have never seen so many ships, cranes , containers in an inland harbour . Really good cycling paths, easy access to the Rhine and Ruhr. Good restaurants. I recommend Mykonos in Meiderich. Very friendly people. Some parts are in need of modernisation. Public transport very good.

What a horrible city!
What a horrible city! I’ve travelled all over Germany, visited at least 50 towns and cities, but I hadn’t been to Duisburg yet, so I figured I’d give it a go. Don’t bother! Apparently it’s one of the poorest cities in Germany and it shows. What a dilapidated, sad city. Even in the city centre there’s buildings that are falling apart, so many empty and abandoned storefronts. Inhabitants of the city appeared sad and bored as well, not exactly the friendliest folks in Germany. Not worth a visit, except for the amazing and free Landschaftspark Duisburg Nord. Definitely hit it up for a visit of an hour or two if you’re in the Ruhr area, it’s worth the drive or ride by public transit, but don’t bother with the rest of the city.
The room I hired at Goldener hahn Hotel was full of insects ,small cockroaches and sorts of ants even on the sleeping bed , embedded within the pillow, I didn't sleep well ,I had to take my shoes and keep the insects everytime, I'm telling you they need to clean and disinfect their rooms. The lady at Reception was not really paying attention at all at my needs, not showing interest of helping at all . However the location is 100% best.
# cockroaches insects,bad service#
Tried to cancel two weeks prior to arrival.
Hotel still wanted full payment. Of course according to the booking agreement, fair enough.
But I think they could have made some effort. I have stayed there several times before, I visit the region 2-3 times a year.
Although its a nice hotel, I will never book them again.
Beautifully appointed apartment within walking distance to the Duisburg Christmas Market. Very comfortable beds, Nespresso coffee maker, welcome snacks, and a private garage makes this apartment one of the best we have stayed in. The owners are very responsive and kind. We are very pleased with our stay.
Near to the Duisburg Hbf and the U ban so the location is perfect. Spacious apartment, but one of the rooms was quite small. Good coffee machine. Washing machine, dishwasher and the oven were great. Big fridge. Owner was flexible with the check in/out timings. Good view from the bedrooms.
Loved the stay in the apartment, it was very neat and quiet. It literally had everything you need. My wife and daughter were first time in Germany and we all had great time there. If you're planning a trip to Duisburg and you need a place to stay, I highly recommend this place.
First time staying at the Wyndham Duisburger Hof. Amazing hotel in a great location. The room was very spacious and clean and the shower was great. Very friendly and helpful staff and excellent selection of items at the breakfast buffet (with delicious coffee too!)
The staff at Hotel Friederichs was very friendly and welcoming. Also as a woman traveling alone I felt very safe. The room was comfortable and clean. The hotel is directly at the train station of Duisburg. The breakfast was delicious and various.
Perfect location about 10 minutes from highway. When you travel during Europe and you need stop in the Duisburg area, this hotel is great because of private parking right next to the hotel. Very good breakfast. Friendly staff.
Definitely better value than a hotel, We were there for a week during the GIFA trade show. The train station is a close walk from the apartment and very close to an Aldi's which made it very easy to get drinks and snacks.
It was in a friendly multicultural neighbourhood and close to the tram and busses.
The room was clean, comfy, had a balcony and had some hotel-gifts like shower gel.
The price is good (especially for germany).
Very friendly and helpful staff, superb breakfast buffet, beautiful Christmas decorations, spacious room for three and good location to catch the S-Bahn to both Duisburg and Duesseldorf.
I always like the location right by the station and it is much nicer than the Ibis (which I think is called something else now). Duisburg is very easy to reach from Düsseldorf Airport
