Moffat Independent Hostel is a friendly, family run, luxury hostel that has been set up with the outdoor enthusiast in mind. Moffat is quaint town in the heart of the Southern Uplands and is a popular stop on a number of Britain's best long distance biking and hiking trails, including the Southern Upland Way & the John o’Groats to Land’s End cycling route. It also provides the perfect base for exploring this beautiful and often forgotten part of Southern Scotland, with it's castles, forests, waterfalls, lochs and vast expanse of wilderness.

The owners made this place look super beautiful and comfy! For a hostel, my room was small (only 4 beds) and it came with an ensuite bathroom! (It does mean a little less "acoustic privacy", but also the luxury of having to share with a maximum of 3 other people!) The owners also took their time to give me recommendations and assistance, even though they were super busy with other jobs. The kitchen is fully equipped and for eating and hanging out there are a lovely dining room (with a record player!) and a comfy games room inside and more seating outside - it's just beautiful, I highly recommend a visit!

Situated in Moffat, in scenic Dumfriesshire, Queensberry House offers free parking and cooked breakfasts. Set in a Victorian building, the bed and breakfast has cosy rooms with free Wi-Fi.

Rooms at Queensberry House are elegantly decorated, and each has a private modern bathroom. Rooms also feature a flat-screen TV, tea and coffee facilities and a hairdryer. The property is suitable for motorcyclists and walkers as there is a drying room where items such as helmets, jackets and boots can be stored.

Queensberry was a great place to stay, both with the experience of warm hospitality from the hosts and the many things to see in the area. We found the room very comfortable, everything laid out perfectly and with a bright bathroom. Excellent breakfast with top notch cooking. With advice form the hosts, we enjoyed sights in Moffat, including the distillery, gardens, good restaurants, and did some beautiful hikes that are close by in the hills.

The room was beautiful and clean. The staff was extremely friendly. When I arrived too late to eat dinner in their restaurant, they called another restaurant for me and arranged a reservation. They also upgraded my room due to availability without me asking. They were wonderful.

Very good location less than an hour outside of Glasgow and very easy access to the motorway. Quiet location and no noise from the pub below. Excellent breakfast, perfectly cooked to order. We arrived quite late to eat the previous evening (8pm) but they accommodated us . The menu was pub grub, and wasn’t as good as the breakfast, but perfectly acceptable. A very nice touch was the fresh flowers on each table. Rooms were basic but clean and quiet.

Kirkview is a cracking place to stay in a great location with lovely views, a great host (John)and a great breakfast! Spotlessly clean, nice large room and private bathroom just across the landing which wasn’t a problem as the whole top floor was solely for our use. John is a lovely guy and couldn’t be more accommodating. Will definitely look to stay here again on our next trip to Scotland.
