It was my second time at Citystudios because I had loved it the first time. It was every bit as last year. As clean, as orderly, as easy to get into. As a Cambridge dweller, I love Ely and know it well. It was a bit dreary 10-15y but has changed a lot with lots of small independent businesses that have sprouted up on and around the high street. It was also a supermarket right in the middle of town (Waitrose). It's similar in feel with Saffrong Walden with the advantage of the riverside. Because it's a small town with not a lot going on at night, and although the accomodation is on the main street, it's VERY quiet, you can hear birds in the morning. The cathedral is nearby (but no bell ringing so you dont get woken up by that!). There's a nice coffee stall on the market place (and market on Thursdays). The accomodation is self contained and has everything you need if you are happy to eat out (very good fish and chip chops around the market area). It's a good work retreat as it has very good internet and a decent-sized desk to work. In terms of parking you cannot park right near the accomodation, although after a certain time you seem to be able to at least unload the car at the door but there are free car parks dotted all around Ely (including at least 2 which are less than 5 mins walk away from the accomodation) where you can stay all day as long as you park after 830AM.

Great alternative to a hotel, especially if you want to self-cater. The location in the centre of Ely is also good if that is what you need, but also close to a public car park if you need to do business in the area and are there with a car.
