Shokinkan is a truly magical place operated by incredible people. Nestled in a gorgeous, ancient temple complex, the grounds are extremely fun to hike/explore during the day, with plenty of opportunities to learn about the history of the place through thoughtful signage and the wonderful staff. The food was absolutely delicious - we were eating a feast of unique foods specially prepared for us every evening and morning, which made the experience epic. Okami-san and everyone else here gregariously welcomed us with cups of beautiful matcha, and even shuttled us to and from Yasugi station and to the Adachi Museum of Art. I will never forget this place!

I visited several places in Shimane and Tottori Prefectures and the Dormi Inn is perfectly located for this purpose. The hotel is located directly at the train station exit, there are lots of restaurants in the vicinity. The room was quite spacious because I had a double room for single use. The thermal spa on the top floor is superb, you can relax outside in 42°C hotspring water. You can program the TV to let you fall asleep listening to three different kinds of relaxation music, very nice.

The location close to the river was very nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There is a small convenient store closed to the hotel. There is a coin laundry and dryer.

Both the hotel, and Tsuwano itself, exceeded all expectations. I travel around slightly-off-the-beaten-track spots like this in Japan a lot and try to find charming little ryokans or minshukus that are value for money. Don't think I've ever found a better one than this. From the entrance it is clear you're entering a place that's punching above its weight. It looks much nicer than you'd expect for the price. Turned up early and the friendly staff were more than happy to let me check in early and make use of the facilities which include a very nice little rooftop bath (rotenburo) and - remarkably - free drinks, including whiskey and shochu, in the little area on the ground floor from 5pm. The hotel place was spotless (it looks very new) and the Japanese-style breakfast was very nice indeed. I'l definitely visit Tsuwano again one day, and I'll definitely stay here.
