Great value for a hostal style accommodation in a ski resort. The bunks are double size with warm blankets. The bath downstairs is a welcome retreat after skiing if you don’t fancy the 7 min walk to the local onsen. Well worth it. Check which one with Rio. The owners were very nice and they were very forgiving of our mistakes and helped out with our request.

The hotel is located right next to the ski slope, and the breakfast had a massive variety. Onsen were clean and well maintained. Overall, it's an amazing hotel we will be back.

Situated in Zao Onsen in the Yamagata region, with Zao Onsen Ski Resort nearby, Green Season - 民泊 Matsuo House in Zao Onsen - Japanese Style - Private Room features accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking. I love the family (parents + daughter), it's their personal home with 4 guest rooms ( Japanese tatami style rooms with shared bathroom). I like evenings by the fire exchanging travel stories with the family and guests. Sharing our food and drinks with everyone. Access to the kitchen to prepare your own food, (if you stay long get groceries in Yamagata before coming). Wash machine access (at small fee). Location: next door to free Onsen (10 meters) and close to ski lift (400 meters) and convenience shop (400 meters). Overall felt really welcomed and would recommend this.
