We loved this place, location is perfect close to the tortuguero national park and quiet at the same time. The hotel is awesome and the guys who work there are really informative and professional.
We also had a chance to see a monkey right on the tree in front of our room.

Great location. Very close to the beach and national park. Short walk to town. Hammocks to rest in outside. Quiet at night. I could hear the sound of the waves. Ask for a map of the town because at first it’s a little confusing. I think mostly locals stay here. No AC but it wasn’t needed. My room had 3 beds and a fan for each bed. The proprietor used an app to translate his Spanish into English for me. I was very pleased with this place.

El trato del personal.
Las excursiones.
La comida.
The town is ok - plenty of eateries. The accommodation at Cabinas Sports Fishing was wonderful! The early morning boat trip was very enjoyable, as was the Jaguar trail in the National Park. The Budda Cafe has a nice vibe and good food. We were there in April so missed the turtle nesting season but still very much worth a visit!

What a gem.
What a gem. We had three nights here but in hindsight could have done two (a lot of people just do one). Two nights gives you a chance to soak up the atmosphere and explore the village from end to end.
It was an experience getting there - a 1hr boat trip (which can be longer depending on the water levels). On arrival we were surprised at the number of bars and restaurants - a huge variety. Many on the waterfront and how wonderful to have no cars. Our hotel met us at the wharf and transferred our luggage.
The hotels are right amongst the locals houses - so you really get to know the village and can hear all the 'goings on'. Just walking around you see the houses, some of the challenges living there, the flora and fauna.
We did a motor boat tour at 9am - would recommend doing this at 6am as the forest wakes up. Its amazing on the water - seeking the birds close up, camen, monkeys and iguanas. You will see more animals on a tour of the forest but its still worth the experience.
The motor boat tour includes national park entry - but I would recommend using a guide in the park as despite what you think its really hard to spot animals without the 'experienced eye'; and of course its their livelihood. I also did a night tour - there were a lot of other night tours - we walked along the route to the airport so it didn't feel super secluded - but we did see an armadillo, spiders, a snake, sloth and an iguana. Just goes to show nature is all around us - but again I would never have seen it without the experienced guide.
Overall its quite an experience and would suggest Tortuguera is a 'must have' on a Costa Rica itinerary.

Loved the fact that the boat dropped us off at the hotel's dock and picked us up here as well. Checkin was a breeze but make sure you have the cash to pay for the room and any tours. Canoe/boat tours, day hikes, night walks were arranged by the hotel in advance for very nominal rates. The tours start right at the hotel and hence very convenient.
The hotel sits on the banks of the river and the views are lovely especially during dusk and dawn. We experienced torrential rain one afternoon and during the night. The rain in the afternoon did not last long. The canals are accessible by boat, canoe and kayaks. Tortuguero is laid back and a nice place to wind down and experience time float by.
Great place to see Great Green Macaws fly by during dawn and dusk. We also saw the last of the turtle hatchings make their way to the sea. Wonderful sight to experience. The town and beach are easily accessible. The canals are teeming in wildlife. We saw green basilisks, iguanas, jacanas, toucans, caimans, herons and monkeys (howler, spider and capuchin). On the night walk we saw frogs (Savage's bullfrog, red-eyed tree frog, some snakes, and a sloth at close range.
The hotel staff were nice. The free breakfast was an added bonus. Laundry service was available for a fee. The town was easily accessible by foot. Local food at the sodas was fulfilling. Overall a wonderful experience!

It was like going to the Amazon River and experiencing wildlife and diversity. It was a multi cultural place with a taste of how locals villagers live , ocean access, river access and the best part is watching conservation of turtles. Turtle night tour is a must do!!?

Town was better than pictured.
Town was better than pictured. Walking to everything is easy. Favorite restaurants were Miss Miriams next to the football field and Budda Cafe overlooking the river. Went on three turtle tours and the canoe tour. All great. Used Tuanis Tours for 2 turtle and canoe and Leonardo for private turtle tour. Grocery store carries beer and liquor at reasonable prices.

The Tortuguero area is considerably different from the rest...
The Tortuguero area is considerably different from the rest of Costa Rica. Isolated from land transport, all access is done either by boat or plane. Opt for the boat if you can. It's cheap (around 8000 colones round trip from La Pavona), and despite being on a public transport you'll have a tour experience. The trip can take up to 1,5 hours, with safety conditions guarateed (life vests) and you'll be winding through the florest canals until you reach the Tortuguero sandbar. much like running down the Amazonas, The village is very small but with a great ambient of friendly people (general fact in all CR) with plenty of options for food/drinks, accomodations. Tortuguero life runs around sightseeing (National Park, turtle tours, and cannoeing in the canals). At night you'll have plenty of options for sunset and dinning. You're in a protected area for marine turtles and the mindset is all around that. Forget about bathing in the river or the beach, as one it's inhabited by crocodiles and the other with bull sharks,
The Fersa boat has info about you upon your arrival to La Pavona and it takes you basically right to the hotel.
The place is right in the center of Tortuguero town and few steps from the beach.
We were lucky to have the whole house to ourselves.
Great communication, Carmen was very helpful and even let us check in sooner.
They offer a great variety of tours. We really enjoyed those!
Very tasty (but a little small) breakfast.
Kitchen with (almost) all you could need and with drinkable water. Wouldn't mind some spatula or ladle.
The hotel is located on the beach and just far enough off the main street to be quiet. Due to COVID, the hotel restaurant and bar were not open to the public, but they did still serve an amazing breakfast to their guests. Rooms were small, but comfortable and we had one with A/C. The sound of the waves and the access to the beach were perfect. The family there was so nice and Alex was very accommodating and helpful in assisting us with finding a guide for the Tortuguero National Park. Also LOVED the gardens.
The receptionist Ingrid was super helpful, friendly and an asset to the hotel. I took the kayak and turtle nesting tours from the hotel and both guides were knowledgeable, professional and I enjoyed them a lot. There were plenty of birds around the hotel and you can walk to everything. For its value, the room had a nice bathroom, without a Costa Rican 'suicide' shower! Although no AC, the fan is powerful enough. Overall a highly recommended simple little beachfront place for your stay in Tortuguero.
The location could not be better! This hotel has its own boat ramp so when we arrived and departed we could do it right from the hotel. It is also right in town, so it was easy and fun to walk to restaurants. The staff members were friendly and helpful (and patient with our limited Spanish). We had a problem with our shower and they worked quickly to find a solution. They were exceedingly helpful with arranging and advising us about activities and transportation.
The host was very friendly and helpful, showing us where the local shop and drinking water supply was. Anything extra we needed for the kitchen he provided. Cleaned the apartment and bedding during our stay. He offered many other things and was very helpful all round. The property is in the heart of the local community and very close to the national park entrance, as well as an easy stroll into town or to the beach.
The owner, Willis, and his family are very nice and helpful. we booked a canoeing tour and the Tortuguero national park. even in strong rain the experience was great.
The place is great! simple, but perfect!
you can walk to the beach, crossing the runway of the tiny airport. crazy! but awesome!
yes, wifi is not the best - but who needs Wi-Fi in a place like this?
highly recommended!
-great location looking right out on the river, easy walk to town, beach, national park
-wonderful welcoming staff- the manager, Emmanuel was always accommodating and a knowledgeable resource on local conditions and activities. Fabian, our birding and nature guide on a canoe tour and on a jungle walk has a deep knowledge of all the local birds and is infectiously enthusiastic.
Good hotel in terms of location and territory. Large garden with birds and iguanas. On one side is the river, on the other there is a beach with access to the sea. You can walk to the city and the national park. Delicious restaurant (better than in the city) and good breakfasts. The rooms are simple but clean. I definitely recommend this hotel.
Definitely one of the best spots if you want to lstsy at the beach in Tortuguero. is directly in front of this part of the sea where are you are able to refresh at least a little bit in the Caribbean sea.
great hammocks and super friendly staff
I HIGHLY recommend the all inclusive Tortugero package through Laguna Lodge. They pick you up in San Jose and baby you through a wonderful rainforest experience. Beautiful hotel, good food and bar. Cool excursions. We loved it
It was right on the beach, it was clean and the breakfast was good with fresh juice. It was just a short walk to the Main Street and the streets to the hotel were paved so it was easy to walk with suitcases.
Awesome tour guide Luis! After spending 2 weeks across much of Costa Rica, he was our favorite! He was passionate about his hometown, Tortuguero!
Great view and outdoor spaces! Lovely breakfast!
Extremely nice staff, great location & nice hotel (the owner really takes care that it looks nice and fresh).
The location right next to a beach and the Jaguar trail is simply the best.
Near the beach but the ocean at Tortuguero is not really good for swimming. Danger warning signs in some places. Near the national park and tour companies offering day and night tours.
The lodge is beautifully located in Tortuguero National Park. The bungalows are nicely furnished and attractive.
A good place to discover the beaches and rainforests around.
Gloria and her husband were excellent hosts. The breakfast was quite good and we took full advantage of the boat-based eco-tours in the area, including of the national park.
- hot water in the shower! Not an obvious thing in Costa Rica 😀
- very comfortable bed
- AC in the room
- Nice location next to the beach
- very clean
- Good breakfast
I was cheap and close to the beach. Good A/C and shower was big and had hot water (often in Costa Rica there is no hot water for the shower. Bed was comfortable.
