Our lady was exceptional, giving first class treatment in talking us through many dishes she served, constantly topping our water, cleaning our teapot. V filling so be warned and you get to try things you wouldn’t get these days or in chain hotels. The onsen was a relief from the long journey. The futons v comfy. The rooms have tatami mats and futons and the onsen is beautiful. It's like staying in someone's home! This is not a super-swish modern hotel, so if that's what you want go elsewhere, but if you want a place with real character, staffed by people who treat you as long-lost friends, then this is the place for you.
