The top of the list is Ole’s beautiful garden, which is filled with flowers, plants, birds, fountains, and multiple sitting areas thoughtfully designed to allow you to sit in the sun or shade, as you wish. The smell from the lilacs and other flowers was absolutely heavenly. 2. We were able to charge and store our e-bikes in the garage where they were safe and dry. This is a big positive for touring cyclists. 3. The whole apartment also smelled of flowers that had been lovingly cut from the garden and placed in a vase on the table. 4. Ole had so many treats waiting for us, we couldn’t believe it. The fridge was filled with eggs, bread, deli meats, butter, jam, orange juice, and condiments perfect for a very nice breakfast, all free. He also provided coffee and tea, and chocolates. 5. There was beer and wine for a very low price to purchase, and local jams and oils as well. 4. The apartment was very tastefully decorated with reminders of the sea and real plants (not plastic) everywhere. 5. The bedding was of the highest quality and the mattress cover made it feel like one big bed instead of two. We slept like the dead. 6. There is a grocery store 180 meters from the house that makes delicious traditional Danish rolls and cookies. My husband and I both have a horrible sweet tooth. They made these homemade crispy cookie sandwiches with a layer of creme in-between and then dipped in chocolate. Oh, my goodness gracious. 6. Last but not least, Ole invited us to have a glass of wine in the garden where we spoke about the wonders of life. This, he said, was what “hygge” was all about. 🥰

Dogs are welcome, and we took advantage of the short nature wall by the park that follows a placid, pretty stream. The hotel has an eclectic decor, with themed rooms that are full of character and comfort. And they are incredibly spacious, many of them perfectly suited for families or large parties. We stayed in the Karen Blixen suite and it was incredibly comfortable and restful. The breakfast has no hot food options (beyond boiled eggs at request and a self-serve.waffle-maker), but it had a great selection of musli, jams, bread and cheese, deli cuts, pastries, and more.

It offers free Wi-Fi, tastefully decorated rooms and both a gourmet and a la carte restaurant (seasonal). You can enjoy coffe and cake in the afternoon after a short walk in the gardens, or a drink in the evening. We loved the location and the gorgeous buildings in the old parts of Møgeltunder where the kro is located.. Great area for walks, especially when the weather is on your side. The Schackenborg castle is next door. Our room was located upstairs in a qute house next to the main building. The room was petite but still spacious, considering the time when the house was built. The bathroom was well equipped with toiletries, and it had a bathtub. The breakfast was extraordinary with a good spread from local producers as well as other Danish foods. Lovely porcelain and ambience. The staff was very hospitable and friendly. Especially the staff at the time for our arrival when the reception was closed. They had to leave their duties at the restaurant to give us the things missing in our room as it was only set up for one person. A minor error, but they really got out of their ways to set it straight. The garden was lovely as lovely as well.
