The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious. Being right next to the Vista Alegre museum made the stay even more special. Amazing place to stay, very nice and helpful staff, we were on the special occasion and received maximum attention there. Room was clean, tidy with everything you might need. We had a rental car, though if you're traveling without a car everything is accessible by foot. You'll find nice traditional cafés and restaurants just 2-3 min. by foot. Beach is also accessible by foot. Special thanks for the shifts operating in Dona Maria while during our stay!

    Aveiro is a great place with plenty to see and do.

    Aveiro is a great place with plenty to see and do. Many lovely places to eat and drink. We stayed for 10 days but I think 7 would have been enough. Must not miss a visit to Costa Nova with the gorgeous coloured houses, also a boat ride is a must. There is a very nice in door shopping centre very close to Hotel Mercado.

    Nazare beach is beautiful but the town lacks amenities, there is nothing to do if you can't swim in the sea (we couldn't due to red flags). Twenty minutes by car is a beautiful town with amazing beach and calm waters called Praia de Sao Martinho, much better.

    This town seemed more “authentic” than some more touristy places, but still had all the easy to access amenities. I enjoyed just walking around, taking pictures of interesting tile work and finding other exceptionally narrow houses.

    The town is definitely geared up for tourists but it is certainly seasonal. Out of season there is not much to do there. There are a huge number of camper vans and RVs around the parking areas along the beach roads, because of the surfing. Restaurants and bars are in abundance near the harbour and most appear to be quite popular in their different price ranges.

    Liked the history, culture and compact nature for getting around. The walled town and Obidos castle were highlights. Lots of little outdoor cafes and restaurants to choose from. Close enough proximity to drive to other places for day trips such as Praia Da Foz Do Arelho and Bacalhoa Budha Eden.

    We loved this city.

    We loved this city. It’s not tourist-packed town and it’s a perfect size, with lovely parks and nice shops and restaurants. People better are kind. That will help you with any language barriers if you’re patient. We enjoyed a nice ramen dinner nearby. Prices are reasonable in the city. The weather was beautiful and became cooler in the evenings.

    Espinho was a great town with lovely restaurants and bars. The person at the train station was particularly helpful as we went to Porto and Avira on day trips. So easy to travel. The town was beautifully lit up.

    a town with character and he’s just the right size for me.

    a town with character and he’s just the right size for me. It has a pretty centre with so much within walking distance and with the advantage of a bike I could explore the edges of the city that seemed to have most large stores as one would expect for a town of that size. On my bike this visit I spent hours getting lost and found on the many small backstreets where I always found people to talk to and redirect me when lost. A friendly place. Great connections by bus and train, only an hour from Lisbon. And then a fabulous coast to explore by public transport or bicycle. Lots of great places to sit on taking the scenery from town cafés to country restaurants I love it. For me. Caldas da Rainha really has the wow factor

    Lovely beach but out of season lacked atmosphere as many things were closed. We had really bad weather making it difficult to get out and about. Can only imagine a month earlier would have been ideal. We visited end of October.

    The town itself is small and borderline boring.

    The town itself is small and borderline boring. Not a lot of options at walking distance, but a few restaurants and souvenir shops. But if you base there, Leiria is close as well as many other famous locations, like Fatima. The monastery is impressive!!!
