My first trip was 45 years ago. In comparison back then there was no boat ride. So that was a nice way of finishing the tour. It was summer back then so there were more glow worms. So best time would be in the warmer months. We’re allowed to take photos at the very end only. Would have been nice to have been able to take a few of the caves itself without a flash as memorabilia. Also with groups going through close together it was hard to hear what our guide was saying over other guide’s voices. “Cup of tea” (John) was an excellent guide and very humorous and knowledgeable.Guest review byLuisaAustralia - 10

I enjoyed the peacefulness of the countryside. The have a small kitchen, with gas oven cooker, fridge. There are two bedrooms. Double bed. and the other has bunks. The shower is very small. We booked an excursion with The Legendary Black Water Rafting Experience Waitomo Caves and it was amazing! Our guides, Garret & Alicia, were fun, helpful, informative, and made sure were were safe in the cave & the water; this is is a must do! Our tour of the caves with a local guide was great.
Our tour of the caves with a local guide was great. It made all the difference that it was a local Māori guide telling us the historical story of the caves and those that first offered it for viewing. Our guide was funny and informative. The walkways were well lit and we felt safe the whole way round.
