A Tropical Jewel
Langkawi, as known as the jewel of Kedah, is the largest island in an archipelagio of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea. And a gem it certainly is, with lush scenery ranging from rice fields and rainforests to leaning palms on tropical beaches.
Of course, it’s the beaches that draw most visitors. Housing a good number of Langkawi hotels, Patai Cenang has the longest and most developed beach, and good nightlife. Neighbouring Pantai Tengah is more peaceful and a popular choice for families.
Langkawi Airport in the west is closest to Padang Matsirat. Just around the coast is the more secluded Burau Bay. The Telaga Tujuh waterfalls are nearby, and just north of its curving beach is the Langkawi Cable Car which travels into the heart of the rainforest, where the Sky Bridge provides amazing views.
Another sleepy beach is the northern Jalan Datai, home to a crocodile park. To the west Tanjung Rhu has one of the most scenic beaches, with bulbous, offshore islands reminiscent of many an action movie.
On the south of this duty-free island is the capital Kuah, whose most recognisable feature is the large eagle statue overlooking its harbour towards the islands beyond. This town has the largest concentration of apartments, motels and hotels in Langkawi on Booking.com.

Yes, the hotel is not brand new, but it’s extremely clean, well-kept, and the beds are large, comfortable, and spotless. I genuinely had a great rest here and felt very comfortable during my stay. The hotel is spotlessly clean and well-maintained. Its location is absolutely stunning — right on the oceanfront, with views of yachts and a peaceful marina. It’s a quiet, serene place, perfect for relaxing and recharging. I had a room with a sea view, and every morning and evening I enjoyed the breathtaking scenery of the ocean and nearby beaches. It was truly magical and one of the highlights of my stay. The breakfast really surprised me — in a good way! There were four different cuisines to choose from: Malaysian, European, Indian, and Chinese, plus a buffet. For a small additional fee (around 45 MYR), you can enjoy a rich, delicious breakfast. I especially loved the meat dishes — the beef sausages and goulash were absolutely delicious. The local pastries were also fresh and tasty. Even though the coffee was from a machine, it was surprisingly good! In the evenings, the hotel offers live entertainment. One night, I even found myself dancing to my favorite songs being performed live — the atmosphere was so joyful and fun. The staff deserves a special mention. They were incredibly friendly, helpful, and always smiling. Since I speak Indonesian (which is quite similar to Malay), it was very easy to communicate, and I truly felt at home thanks to their warmth and hospitality. There’s also a fantastic infinity pool where I spent a lot of time, and a great restaurant that stays open late. Most happening area of Langkawi. Only beach with sports activities like parasailing, water scooter, boats, kyaking etc. Lots of cafes around and and a big flee market with multiple duty free shops nearby. Above all underwater world is also at 2 mins of drive from pantai cenang beach. Kuah was nice, the locals were very friendly and we found some restaurants that served great food, however, our accommodation could have been better. There were things in the apartment that did not work and we had a booking for 5 adults but there were only two coffee cups, four chairs. Malaysia itself is built on tourism use, I didnt like the fact that you have to pay to use bathrooms specially in touristic areas where you will spend already inside as there is food, shops and activities, and also you have to pay for a bathroom and extra for tissue. which made it a struggle if you walk with no money. most of the adventures are not priced you are given a different price and every tourist is given a different price, and the staff claim they dont know if you ask any question that would make them not profit. overall its a very beautiful city, but it is not a place I would go to again.Guest review byFadwaNayelEgypt - 10
