FAQs about hotels in Cilento

Italian Delight of Greek Gods

Occupying the southern part of Italy’s Campania Region, Cilento is one of those few remaining Mediterranean paradises glowing with its nature and genuine southern Italian atmosphere. It stretches between the coastal cities of Paestum and Sapri, and includes the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park.

Its 100 km of coast are kissed with crystalline waters, while its interior displays a mountainous landscape and historic villages. Established by Greek colonialists before Roman times, the remains of Velia (ancient Elea) and Paestum (ancient Poseidonia) remind us about this rich legacy. Both towns and the national park have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Due to the quality of its water, its beaches are among the most awarded of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Cities like Santa Maria di Castellabate, Acciaroli and Marina di Camerota have some of the best small boutique and luxury hotels in Cilento. They include B&Bs, agriturismi, refurbished villas, and private apartments.

The biggest cities in the region are Agropoli, Vallo della Lucania and Sapri. Together with Ascea and Palinuro, these towns have the largest offering of resorts and bigger hotels in Cilento.

Whether you prefer a picturesque palazzo or a large resort, Booking.com has the best deals in Cilento accommodation!

We loved the unexpected beauty, Italian design style and spaciousness of the resort! Of course high on our list was the gourmet food from the restaurant. The location was just right and we walked to a store and restaurant in town. Proximity to the ruins was a plus. Only sad thing was we were so busy all 4 days we did not get to the winery or buffalo farm nearby. Guess we will have to do it again. This hotel was a great bargain!

Good place to relax and enjoy breakfast and dinner if you choose it - Recommend dinner. Let host know what you would like the day before. Parking inside gated area is nice -no extra fee. Easy access to town and any services you may need. Overall room and dinner costs are reasonable. Definitely recommend a stay here - like paradise. 5 star raring for sure.

I love where i stayed as i am not into crowds and packed discotheques. It was the perfect getaway for someone who loves to be in nature more than anything. At night, the city comes alive in a magical family and couple friendly way. There are party beach clubs near the if you are searching for them, but this town is really best enjoyed for its beauty, tranquility, and respect for nature.

Palinuro is a very cute town along the coast. Not touristy like other beach cities along the coast. If you want to experience Italy a bit off the beaten path and away from the hustle and bustle of Sorrento, this is the place to be. The locals were super friendly and welcoming; food was delicious, beaches very nice and clean. Overall, great experience! Looking forward to going back in the fall to hike in the National Park!

    There are many hotels, there.

There are many hotels, there. If you are a history buff, or like UNSECO sites, you would like it. There is not a lot of night life there. It is a small city for relaxing and enjoying the beach. If you have small kids, you might like the little trampoline park or you might like playing the popular game of padle/pickle ball there. The train station is small, but it can take you to many small interesting cities nearby or big cities like Naples less than 2 hours away. Usually the temps in July and August are in the low 90's, however we went when there was a terrible heat wave! So, I can't report on the weather at this time. We did ask people from there and former visitors; they said usually the temp is very pleasant. We liked eating at our hotel or you can walk into Ascea and there are restaurants facing the ocean. The beach was very clean and pleasant to swim in. Chairs if you want them for £20 a day. Local people are very pleasant. Easy to walk around Ascea.

Shhh, don't tell anyone about this place, it might get more popular :) Highlight discovery of our souther Italy adventure. Sapri is the exact thing we had hoped to find in an Italian seaside resoin north rt town. We could get out of Positano, Amalifi or Sorrento quick enough while we started to look at real estate prices for month long rentals here. Easy access from Naples by train. 25 kilometers from main north/south autostrade. Close to everything but just far enough away.

Great set of ancient temples from Greek period in the archeilogical zone in Paestrum. They are next to the train station. The entrance fee is 20€ for family ticket. There are nice beaches nearby but you need a car to get there. Also there is a famous farm where you can visit animals and buy diary products - near the road between Paestrum and Capaccio.

    The Greek temples are great.

The Greek temples are great. Another visitor told us about an app that describes many parts of the archaeological site. The museum across the street is worth visiting, too. We used our CampaniArteCard for tickets, which were issued at the museum for both the museum and the archeological park. There are many restaurants near the archaeology site. Many were open during a festival when we arrived. Only a couple were open on Monday, March 31. The archaeology area is about 1.5 km from residential areas that have groceries.
