What a treat to stay at this amazing place in the quaint village of Garai, just above the larger town of Durango. Staff is incredible (thanks to Olatz for warm welcome and Irune for delicious breakfast and excellent tips on sites in the area!). Rooms are very cozy, we had amazing views of the mountains. The entire hotel is decorated so tastefully. We highly recommend the Herriko restaurant in town, a short stroll from hotel. Garai is an excellent base to explore the Basque region.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. The location is fantastic, offering easy access to the beautiful Bakio Beach. The staff were incredibly helpful throughout our stay, always ready to assist with any requests. Despite a minor inconvenience, the exceptional kindness of the staff more than made up for it.     The reception staff spoke English and was actively trying to be helpful and informative, unlike most of the staff in the Restaurants and Cafes in the city, which made the hotel staff exceptionally impressive, they actually seemed to care about our experience. They were also happy to serve you coffee even at 06:30 in the morning (before breakfast). Speaking of breakfast, we chose to not have it, but at one point we saw people eat and the food seemed simple, yet very appetizing and probably tasted great (just like most food in Bilbao) The hotel's inner layout prioritized room size to hallway size, so it seems really small and tight until you enter your room and find a large double bed with plenty of space and a great view (our room was overlooking the river). The noise from the street was barely noticeable and we slept peacefully at night. The bathroom was a little small, but it fulfilled its purpose. The location of the hotel is perfect. Depending on where you need to go, there is a bus station ~20meters away from the entrance and also a metro station in a 3-4min walking radius, if you're headed to the city center, you can get there in 10-15min on foot over the Zubizuri.

    Aranxa, the owner, made us extremely welcome. We had a lovely room with a terrace and view of the ocean. The location was perfect for anyone with their own transport. We had use of the garden and kitchen facilities. Within easy reach of fantastic beaches, pretty villages and an amazing bird sanctuary. An extremely relaxing experience and highly recommendable.

    Great location, short trip to Ferry, Very good wifi in room, Max Centre very close for fast food, secure parking for my motorcycle from 11pm to 8am, I still recommend to use locks on your motorcycle like every other hotel. Friendly staff and easy checkin, Bar, breakfast cost 10 euro and well worth it. Room was quiet and large enough for solo or couple.

    A great neighbourhood to experience authentic life in another country and culture. Weekends are festive in the area with lots of activity at the local bars and cafes. Not many tourists around though... more elderly population noticeable.

    The beaches and harbour were lovely.

    The beaches and harbour were lovely. It is well worth taking the gondola across the water to the local cafes and old town area. The promenade is long and makes wonderful walking by the sea. There are all kinds of games and water sports available. Getxo is a Spanish resort. Bars in town offer snacks (pintxo) with beer/wine etc. Restaurants are on the promenade reached by lift. Very little English is spoken except in the restaurants on the promenade.

    The Museo de la Paz is impressive, a visit there cannot miss during the trip. For dinner it is necessary to book a tablet in advance, as per all the cities in the Basque Country. With the Eusko train you can reach in 30 minutes some villages on the coast such as Mundaka and Bermeo, very beautiful places. You can buy the Barik card to travel at a very low price on all kind of public transport in Bizkaya.

    First of all Lekeitio is a very safe town. Walked a lot and always felt safe. It is the best little coastal town with beaches, bakeries, bars, restaurants, parking, grocery and other stores, within walking distance. We stayed at 20 Beheko Kalea and it was a perfect location - the port was about 4 minutes away. Didn't go into the water at the beach, but my grandkids did later this month and they totally loved it. We ate at the bar/restaurants by the port and we also ate at Restaurant Egana. All was great.

    Visited this quaint beach/surfer town in off-season and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very few foreign tourists. A couple nice tapas bars were open and filled with locals. Charming streets and views of the sea. Frequent, reliable train service available to other towns along the coast and all the way to Bilbao.

    There’s a lot to see in Portugalete - plenty of information at the Tourist Office. The nearest beach is just minutes away The hanging bridge (puente Colgante) is an extraordinary piece of engineering and is the most predominant feature here There’s a produce market - fruit/veg/flowers and plants three times a week. There are boat trips too but these only operate at weekends from 15 September We found a great Mexican restaurant in the old town

    Bakio is a terrific beach and surfing resort, but we didn't go for either of those. We went because it's close to Gaztelugatxe and there are some very good restaurants nearby. And a txakoli museum! Check it out!
