The gentleman at the reception kindly offered us both a free room upgrade and an early chek-in (although initially we only planned to leave our luggages, as we arrived more than an hour before the check-in time, Canada most likely being one of the countries with the atest check-in hours on the planet), which we much appreciated. The hotel itself - a nice brick-clad building on a rather quiet street - is within walking distance of both the main attractions and an underground train station (very convenient to those who reach the city by means of public transportation). Late summer trip with great sunshine, everyone was having a good time around the Byward market, with a drums band. Local fete in Chinatown on Sunday. Pleasant walk along the Parliament hill and river & canal. Plenty of food to try, with small stalls & shops as well as bigger ones. Very nice location. Many shops and restaurants in area. Just off the 417 and over the bridge from where the Senators play. 20 minutes to downtown. Visited the Nordic Spa in Quebec. There was a strong sewer smell in the second floor hallway. Our 1st room was awful but the next one was an upgrade for sure. Ken was very nice at the check-in and for our messy room ordeal. The breakfast and breakfast lady was awesome. It was included with the room and there was a big selection of option for a continental breakfast. It was a really nice stay...if the pool would of not been broken our stay would of been close to perfect. The location was great related to where we needed to be but there were far too many issues. Essentially on the surface, the Riverrock seems nice enough but the staff appears not to care. We had issues with the internet and TV only working intermittently. The door lock was glitchy, the window, once opened, would not close, no hot water and the breakfast was extremely basic. I love that there are beautiful parks all over the city. There's always a place to sit and rest. There are so many things to do, beautiful sites to see, museums, beautiful walking trails. It's amazing that you can walk into another province and visit a museum, then walk back. We stayed 3 days in the downtown core, walked 37 km during that time and still didn't have anough time to explore and see everything we wanted to. People in the stores, restaurants, hotel, are friendly, helpful and always "there". You can go, park your vehicle and not need it until it's time to go home!Guest review byChampagne - 10.0

I was only there because I had appointments at the hospital...
I was only there because I had appointments at the hospital but Ottawa is an excellent tourist city with lots to see and do and it is an atractive city in general. There are plenty of places to eat good food as well as fast food and plenty of shopping to satisfy anyone. A short trip over one of the bridges brings you into the neighbouring town of Gatineau which is also a great place to visit. Hopefully next time we'll visit as tourists rather than having medical tests done.Guest review byAnonymous
