With a picturesque setting on the banks of the River Dee, this charming Scottish mansion dates back to 1225 AD, and was once home to the Knights Templar. 歴史を感じさせつつ、全てが重厚で暖かみがある（8月下旬だったが現に暖炉に火が入っていた）。若いスタッフはパートタイムかと思うが、丁寧な接客。レストランは実に質が高く、本当にValue for moneyだった。一泊で去るのが勿体無い感じだった。

We stayed at Craggan for two nights, and the whole stay was just wonderful. The reception by Martyn was very warm, friendly and welcoming, the room was beautiful and very comfortable, and Louise's cooking was truly exceptional. All in all this was just a very pleasant stay for which we are very grateful. Located in the heart of Cairngorms there is plenty to do as well (we went for hiking, but just as easily we could have visited Balmoral castle for instance, or we could just have relaxed in the beautiful countryside), and Ballater has plenty of good options for dinner. We found our hosts extremely helpful, and they went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as they could. Louise's cooking is reason enough in itself to stay at this place, but truly the whole experience was just wonderful. Highly recommended!
