The owner herself greeted us with genuine hospitality that felt deeply personal, ushering us into a room that opened to our own private onsen, a sanctuary of steam and silence. Yet it was the communal baths that truly stole the show: outdoor, gender-separated, and perched dramatically above the river, where bathing in the rain felt almost spiritual, as if the past ten days of travel were being washed away one drop at a time. Dinner was a quiet triumph: a Taiwanese set menu that, while simple, was balanced and deeply satisfying, comfort food elevated by care and context. In a final act of kindness, our host insisted on driving us to the airport the next morning, leaving us feeling both spoiled and a little foolish. Because if there’s one regret, it’s this: staying only one night. Next time, we’ll linger. And you should too.

Although we did not meet, the main positive about the place is the host… super fast responses, full of really kind attentions, before, during and after our stay. It’s so nice to be dealing with someone so thoughtful 😍 The place is a flat with a bloke of flat so you’re basically « leaving » like a local and definitely have a taste of it. The place is walking distance from the city centre (around the train station) and not far from the sandbath. Beds were comfortable and you could really fit a whole family in or 2 couples :-) Thanks you so so much… it was a pleasure.

The property is non-smoking and is set 2.7 km from Kirishima Jingu Shrine. Really big and spacious and beautifully designed. They even have an onsen with a TV inside which is mind blowing! The location is great for us because we drive and they are next to a farm with very scenic views!

The homestay serves an American and vegetarian breakfast and breakfast in the room is also available. The homestay is located in a geothermal area, with a number of hot springs nearby for guests to relax in. Boss's house is the best! Beds are comfy and water pressure is very good and Haruka makes delicious food even had soy milk for our coffee and really thought of everything for us. Her English is good and you can feel at ease at Boss's House. Her dad is very nice and even played us some traditional Okinawa music. If you want a real Japanese host experience we can not recommend it highly enough. Just understand this is home in the middle of quiet street nothing is walkable so we had haruka pick us up and drop us off at airport which was seemless experience but does cost extra but it is totally worth it as taxis can be difficult to find or guide to this location. Haruka communication with us before our trip was above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. We loved our stay on our way to Yakushima Island as a one night layover.
