The bodega rightly calls itself a boutique wine lodge. Only 14,000 bottles are produced per hectare each year, of the Tannat, Syrah and a blend of the first two varieties. The guest house has four very spacious and modern rooms, with seating on both sides. The newly built swimming pool with comfortable loungers around the pool in the middle of the vines deserves special mention. The staff also deserves special mention, who are always friendly and helpful. Federico, the manager of the complex, looked after us with humor and a lot of knowledge. He showed us around the wine cellar and the rest of the complex. The highlight of the stay was the wine tasting with a wonderful platter of delicacies. The whole thing was only surpassed by the asado. A selection of meat that is second to none was served to us right by the fireplace.

Located in Carmelo in the Colonia region, CABAÑA LA TOSCANA features a terrace. This lodge features free bikes, a garden as well as free WiFi. This location was fabulous! My fiance and I rented a car to drive around Uruguay for 1 week and this was our favourite place that we stayed. It is easy to reach by car and gives the perfect location for exploring the nearby town and local wineries. Aldo and his family gave plenty of recommendations and were extremely helpful in finding any activity we were looking for. The yard is beautiful, plenty of open space backing on to fields (with some cute horses that would occasionally stop by for a visit). Every morning we were brought a delicious breakfast with beverages, pasteries, dulce de leche, fresh fruit, etc. that we were able to peacefully enjoy while looking out into the beautiful fields of Uruguay. We borrowed bicycles and went for a ride on the farm roads around the location. If you have time, I would also 100% recommend going to El Legado winery just close by down the road (it is an adorable small family run business with a great story and wine). The cabin was also exceptionally clean and had great Air conditioning! I would recommend this location to anyone looking to explore Carmelo!
