Puerto Barillas ligger i Jiquilisco Bay, som är El Salvadors största flodmynning. Här erbjuds en restaurang och en utomhuspool omgiven av tropiska trädgårdar. Fantastic location right in the heart of the mangroves. Feels very secluded and peaceful. They offer boat tours through the waterways to see the wildlife and nature, as well as some guided walks. The guides weren't bird experts, but they could point out the different species and were able to get you nice and close. Access is through a series of well-guarded sugar cane fields and cocoa plantations before you end up in natural landscapes. The accommodation is a small collection of lovely raised cabanas in a forested area. The food is great (restaurant closes at 6) and the staff are very friendly. Pretty limited English but there are a few staff members who speak it well. Highly recommended!
