A traditional home situated in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood about 10 minutes away from train station. There’s a communal kitchen and living room for use as well as a private onsen that you can reserve. Hiro, the host, is very accommodating and will provide rides when needed. His English is really good and his sense of humour even better. His knowledge of the area and itinerary suggestions worked very well for us. We’d highly recommend the local izakaya 800m from his place.

We went during the week and there were not so many people, most of the time when we went to onsen we were the only people there as if it was a private one. The onsens were cleaned every day. We paid for the expensive dinner (according to their website) and it was totally worth it. The food amount was also enough and had a good diversity. Staff was very polite and responsive. Moreover, we had a balcony in the room where we could smoke cigarettes. If you plan to shower outside the onsen baths you might freeze to death on the way back to the room from the public bath. (In May). Getting to the hotel from Tokyo was also straight forward but it took some time.

(Shower is downstairs, still quite convenient.) But the real charm of Morino Garden is the host. Yuriko went above and beyond for us, offering rides, luggage storage, and even a meal we hadn’t booked. We felt as if we’d been welcomed into a home—as, indeed, we had.

Established in 1666, Honke Bankyu is housed in a registered historical building. The Japanese rooms feature traditional decor, futon bedding and a flat-screen TV. A wonderfully authentic traditional ryokan with spacious, comfortable rooms and beautiful river views. The public onsen was perfect—hot, clean, and peaceful with great natural scenery. Dinner was a delightful kaiseki experience with impressive presentation and thoughtful local dishes. The staff were warm, professional, and attentive, making the stay truly special. The setting with a charming rope suspension bridge adds to the unique atmosphere. A perfect getaway for onsen lovers seeking relaxation with excellent hospitality. Highly recommended. The location is very convenient - close to a bus stop and to Heiki no Sato. The room was spacious, clean and bright - very comfortable. We enjoyed the private bath. Although it was described as indoor, we were delighted to find that it had full-length windows looking out onto nature so it felt out door to us! The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. :)
