Only a 2-minute walk from JR Aomori Train Station, Iroha Ryokan offers simple Japanese-style rooms with a flat-screen TV. As an overseas visitor to Aomori, I felt very welcomed by the proprietress. It was a much more personal experience than staying at a hotel and she made sure to check in with me every day. And despite the language barrier, everything was explained clearly and there was lots of helpful signage posted. I also enjoyed my room on the third floor and the air conditioner worked well. The room was big for me as a solo traveler and two people would fit fine. Three might be a little cozy unless you're just needing a place to crash. While there is one shower, it was never a problem grabbing a shower each day. I stayed for 5 nights and the place appeared full each night and yet I only ever caught a glimpse of another lodger twice. If planning to use the free washing machine, just be sure to leave time to hang dry your laundry. And, as everyone else says, the location absolutely cannot be beat.

The onsen is really good. The views are nice from the room, and they gave us a 2000 yens voucher (we didn't have breakfast included) which we used for the shop. When they came to install the futons, it wasn't the right time for us, so I asked them to not do it now. When it was the right time, I went to reception to ask for it, I think the women who normally do it had finished their shift but two men from the reception came to the room and installed the 4 futons (you had to add the sheets.on the pillows and the blankets too). I didn't realise this wasn't their job until it was too late but I was very thankful they did it especially as the room was small for 4 futons and the tables and it required some tetris skills.

The hotel is very thoughtful on small details. Kid loved the play room a tons. We were there on off season, the atmosphere was very comfortable and relaxing. Highly recommend.
