I was born in Johannesburg and graduated from Pretoria Technicon in Film Production after completing school and conscription. I worked in the camera department in film production for 30 years, 18 of them as a Director of photography in South Africa and abroad, both in television and advertising I arrived in Hout Bay 18 years ago from Johannesburg to work on a Canadian television series but never made it back to Johannesburg. I had arrived in the midst of mountains, forests and the sea. and loved the peace and the natural surroundings. I still count myself lucky to have the opportunity to enjoy it. I see hosting this property as a great opportunity to share the experience with others. Perhaps my guests will get the same feeling of wonder that I experienced when I first saw Hout Bay 50 years ago.

Hout Bay is an old fishing seaside suburb with lush green forests towered over by the beautiful Cape mountains, only 25 Km’s from the city centre. It can be hard for anyone to imagine that the lights of the city are merely 20 minutes away when enjoying the Atlantic wind blowing through the wooded area around Hout Bay at night. Hout Bay has much to offer. A well-known bird park, the World of Birds, the harbour and the white sandy beach are just a few of the attractions. The Hout Bay harbour is a must to visit and includes a yacht and boat marina, a working fishing fleet, some excellent fish and chip outlets and Mariners Wharf. As with most places around Cape town, hikes form a huge part of things to do on a sunny day. Hout Bay Corner is a favourite hike and can be completed in under two hours. A vibrant place to visit is the Bay Harbour market. Food, drinks, live music and interesting people are always on show at this cool local market. Hout Bay has many excellent restaurants.
