Hi Folks! I am originally from Nebraska; farm raised and have been in New England for over 30 years. My husband and I fell in love with Lubec while vacationing here in 2010, looking for the end of America. We decided to learn more about this beautiful place and now plan to retire here. We frequent the area and hopefully can answer questions you may have about Lubec. I have been hosting 3 years now, and really enjoy sharing this little slice of heaven with you!
Sunrise by the Sea give you that historical feel and has spectacular views of the Bay of Fundy, including Campobello Island and Quoddy Head State Park. Sunrise sets on the very edge of the renowned South Lubec Sandflats bird marsh, one of the most pristine waterfowl environments anywhere. Numerous migratory shore birds have been spotted here in Maine (over 400) and three quarters have been spotted in the Lubec area. High tide you will most likely see flocks flying overhead to nest in the fields, while low tide you will see them return and settling on the shoreline. With patience, you will likely see Bald Eagles flying overhead. A long pebble beach is a stone’s throw from the cottage and can be accessed at low tide at the end of the path and across the sand bar. Bar Rd. is .3 miles, direct beach access and parking.
Once you have had a chance to kick back and if you want to venture in town, you will find some quant shops, a local hardware store, and a few eating establishments. The Fishermen’s Memorial and Pier are a must see, and you will most likely see the seals bobbing up and down that dots the landscape. If you like antiques, that is available too just a few miles down the road. Food and spirits can be purchased at the Lyons IGA, but please note that they close at 7:00 pm. You may want to purchase food supplies prior if you are planning on arriving late in Lubec. No worries, check in will be ready when you arrive, just message us to let us know.
