Hello and Welcome to Le Gite, allow us to introduce ourselves. We are a family of four, Bakari, who is Ugandan and was raised in Kyambura. Iris a French national raised in Normandie. We have two children, Bahia aged 8 and Marius aged 5 and both born in Kigali as we have been living there since 2012.
Iris came to work in Uganda fifteen years ago back in 2008, where she was volunteering in a private organization. This was her first time in Africa and absolutely fell in love with it. Iris and Bakari met shortly after and spent three years touring around Uganda and landed up in Bakari’s hometown next to Queen Elizabeth National Park and the village of Kyambura. This is where Bakari grew up and it immediately felt like home to Iris.
Bakari has always paid attention and respected his fellow community members and is highly respected within the area. Bakari’s grandmother, known as Granny by everyone has also retired in Kyambura and is one of the village’s counselors. Bakari's dad is also from this area, really making it a special place for the whole family.
Plenty of activities await you around Kyambura! Take a stroll through the village, down to the mesmerizing gorges and the flowing river.
Explore local communities, delve into their livelihoods, savor their cuisine, engage in conversations, absorb their wisdom, and foster meaningful exchanges of ideas. Visit various farms cultivating coffee, cotton, vanilla, and cocoa.
We organize scenic walks around the crater lakes, nestled in the heart of 42 such lakes. A mere 30-minute drive leads to the Imaramagambo forest, adjacent to Kyambura Gorge – both renowned habitats of chimpanzees.
