Occupying an elevation shared by so few others in New Zealand, this meticulously designed and crafted little dwelling welcomes you to our world of big skies, wide valleys, braided rivers and rugged mountain ranges.  Secluded within a large high-country station, Snowgrass hut provides two people, a retreat into mountains, nature, solitude and silence a lifetime away, less than 90 minutes drive across the plains from Christchurch. This is a deliberately simple building for simple pleasures – a fire to light, a meal to prepare, companionship and a book to read. By day, it embraces the big skies and mountains beyond, but as night falls or bad weather approaches it looks inwards, a refuge and shelter from the storm. The kitchen is compact and discreetly integrated into the living area. It features a stainless steel bench with a two burner gas hob while food can also be cooked on the top of the adjacent little wood burner or BBQ'd in the porch outside. There is a comprehensive range of pots, pans, appliances, utensils and a Nespresso coffee machine. Your bedroom is comfortably furnished with a queen size bed, panel heater and dimmable reading lights. Bedding includes electric blankets, quality linen and woollen throws. Inbuilt USB chargers are available on either side of the bed with a selection of books tailored for short reads. The bathroom is appointed with heated towel rails, quality bath products, luxurious towels, hair dryer, Bathrobes and slippers for use around the hut. There is an excellent high pressure shower with plenty of hot water provided via a gas califont. The covered porch is the perfect spot for lunching outdoors through most of the year or to linger during long summer evenings. On the deck outside you will find a Stoked hot tub. Great for tired bodies after a long session mountain biking or hiking while soaking in the views as the sun sets over the mountain ranges beyond.

Kate and Bert Oliver have been hosting at Inverary since 2006, raising their three children – Lily, Fergus, and Hugh – on the station. Bert manages Inverary Station in partnership with the Chapman family, who have lived there for nearly a century. While Kate continues her rural banking work in Ashburton, she embraced the chance to create a visitor accommodation business, fulfilling her dream of spending more time at home and sharing the 
unique lifestyle and beauty of Inverary. We like to let our guests dictate how much or little contact they would like with our team. While we're always up for a chat and to share our love for this beautiful place, we are all set up for contactless check-in and a well sign-posted road enables guests to drive the easy climb to the hut without the need for 4WD. The hut is fenced off from the rest of the station and is completely private with no visibility from the working farm below. You can remain as connected to the outside world as you wish, with excellent internet and Wi-Fi access in the hut. The station’s radio telephone system allows you to get in touch with station staff at any time, and includes a portable handset for your use during any biking and walking expeditions.

Tucked into the hillside, and concealed until you are almost upon it , the striking alpine dwelling with a steeply raked back wall entices you through its narrow entrance to reveal spectacular panoramic views of the valley and mountain ranges beyond. You are just a short 15min drive to our nearest village of Mt Somers, where you will find a store/cafe, local tavern and a lovely local Restuarant Stronechrubie. If you need to go further Methven township is approx. 30minutes drive and Ashburton 40minutes drive.
