The Waitakaruru Arboretum and Sculpture Park was opened over 30 years ago and is run by the Art-In-Nature Arboretum Trust. Sustainability of nature and art are the driving forces of the park. Formed from derelict land, the park is now an established woodland garden and arboretum which is protected long term. The Trust ensures that the park provides an environmental and creative place of inspiration for visitors of all ages.

The Retreat is a perfect hideaway where you can take a moment to relax in this peaceful, natural environment or sit and enjoy the view of the Quarry pond from the front porch. Feel free to wander the 2km pathway throughout the park and enjoy the birdlife with over 30 different species making this home. This includes the New Zealand Ruru (native owl) which is the namesake of the property. The park has over 100 New Zealand sculptures all placed throughout the walk. Each year additional sculptures are on exhibition within the park. The Retreat provides you with a unique get away experience.
